I just e-mailed the breeder from which I ordered a killie pair a few weeks ago asking him what the best procedure for keeping my new fish alive through a 3 week vacation. He gave me the advice, but then insulted me! He told me to "use my head" and said "doesn't college teach you to think for yourself?"

I was shocked. What the hell? What an a******. :mad2:

I'll be ****** if I ever ask him for help again.

lol. maybe its just me. BUt i would have laughed at it.

It just caught me completely by surprise. It shocked me. I would have thought that he might act a bit more professionally, especially for someone who is listed on a national organization's website as a reputable breeder.

Well he could have just been joking. I mean he could have had a smile on his face while he wrote it.

Its easy to take things a way that the writer did not intend it to me. One of the joys of comunicating on the internetz.

No way. I am usually good at picking out sarcasm, even online. Allow me to copy/paste some of the e-mail. It seemed pretty spiteful to me:

"Didn't college teach you to think for yourself?"

That's word for word. That doesn't sound very jovial or joking to me. It sounds like he looks down on me for asking his advice instead of "thinking for myself" when I'm a rookie freaking aquarist. Give me a break! I just started in the hobby. Excuuuuse me for asking you an innocent question that could very well mean the life or death of two animals that you yourself cared for before selling them to me!

Well. Wheter or not it was spiteful or not is a matter of opinion. But dont turn him down just because one time. If it happens again...and again. Then i give you alll the reason to can him.

I suppose you're right that it's not his job to give a service. But he could have told me that in a civilized manner.

Or you can look at it this way.

He went above and beyond his job discription to give you advice. He could have said "Screw you kid, i just sell fish, i dont give advice".
