SP2 has caused problems for SCS at CMU (read school of computer science) where the back up systems do not work on systems with SP2 and these are common backup systems for networks. Retrospect is one.

What your describing is not a problem with SP2 but with the backup software not being SP2 compliant. Some vendors are are dragging their feet (IMHO) on updating there code to be SP2 compliant. I spent a couple days in training to learn about what needed to be changed in my companies apps to become SP2 compliant. Even though I'm a Java developer, Microsoft is a client of my companies so the training was provided for free so i figured i'd attend. Microsoft took a step in the right direction with regards to security but they are along way from the security of a Linux based OS.

well actually which linux do you recommend, isn't there one where you can have windows run iside linux?

well all linux's can have windows run inside if you are running vmware I use it at work it works fine, it is really a x86 emulator, and can run any OS that runs on a intel or intel clone box. Well for which Linux, I love slackware but I also don't have the time for it, you have to do everything by hand, RedHat is good if you don't have time to do all the adminstration by hand, it has "wizards" to do the work for you, I have tried debian, I never really liked it, BUT there are those that sware by it. Also you can have a "dual" boot system, My Pastor tried this for a while, what this is, you can have both windows and Linux installed on the same computer on diffent partions and at boot time you can decide which one you want to run, back in sep of 97 this is how I did it untll dec of 98 when I kill windows on that box since over time I had started to use Linux more and more and windows less and less till I was using Linux only and never using windows, this is the path I suggest have the system dual booted and chose which one you want at boot time, this way you can keep your current setup and slowly test out Linux and maybe move over.
