    Store selling Aquababies - CRUEL!

YUCK never heard of them before - reminds me of goldfish in cups at the fair. I still can't believe their claim with the 2, 3-year old rosey barbs. Sorry, but that is just implausible in a few cups of water! Where is truth in advertising??

    Long hair lesson

Hi Dragon Queen - I'm not sure if it would affect canisters or not....but I would guess so - I'll surely check my canister in the future just in case. ;) Maybe someone w/ mechanical engineering can tell us? As for a sponge on the intake - I'm not sure how to do this w/ a penguin - off...

    Long hair lesson

Anybody else with long hair & impeller problems? :D I just learned a serious lesson in tank maintainence! I have little longer than shoulder length blonde hair that is hard to see in the water - but I realize that sometimes it falls into the tank during cleaning or is on my hands or arms...

    This is BBA - isn't it? :(

Thanks Len and TY So I'm really confused now about the KH - I'd posted before about raising KH - (b/c my pH kept dropping w/ the CO2).....and I thought the aragonite would raise the KH (but it hasn't)....Everything I read online said to use Aragonite OR crushed coral...I figured they were...

    This is BBA - isn't it? :(

Sorry! :o I should know better. It's a 42 hex w/ Fluval 304 and I'm running argonite as one media, (1 carbon, 1 argonite, 2 rings), an Orbit 2x20watt pc (on 12 hours) and Hagen CO2. It is stocked w/ 2 immature angels, 4 lf danios, 2 panda cory, 2 dwarf gourami & 6 cardinal tetras...

    Please Help Me !!!!!!!!!!

Flagfish - you really need to take a lot more of your fish back. Go look at Blinky's comment in your other post for advice. If you don't, you are going to end up with a diseased tank for a number of reasons and all or most of your fish will die which will be expensive, painful and a waste...

    cardinal tetras...

They are very hard to breed - One LFS told me they've "never" been bred in captivity....I don't know if that is true, but I've never heard anyone successful - but web says - http://www.aquanic.org/discuss/_orna/0000008e.htm

    This is BBA - isn't it? :(

Good guess Len! :) Yes I just started this tank at the new year, its a 42 hex. How can you tell it was new? Are diatoms and BBG endemic in new tanks? So the first plants I put in there came w/ my Angels from someone local....I thought it would be better than Petsmart but I think they...

    This is BBA - isn't it? :(

Thanks guys, I haven't been dosing with ferts but will pick up some Flourish Excel today.... Can the affected plants contaminate the whole tank in the meantime? I got the plants about a month ago and so far they haven't spread it to uncontaminated plants I bought elsewhere (meaning only...

    This is BBA - isn't it? :(

Hi I've searched the forum and read the couple links on red algae.....I just want to double check w/ you all.....this is BBA isn't it? (attached pix) [/IMG] I got my first group of plants for this tank (1 anubias and a ton of java fern) from the woman I bought my angels from (she's a...

    Really, really bad news... :(

Oh Ems - we all know you worked so hard and were so excited, it looked great - Wow, everyones worst nightmare. You just don't think it will happen - I'm going to be extra careful w/ heavy things around my tank from now on! It can only get better from here....and think at least your fish...

    Muskellunge in 250g

Well I guess it certainly is legal then. You sound well-informed about your local laws Gambusia. :) It seems like a lot of people don't even think about it. So I'll concede the legality of it....I suppose none of our beloved fishies were "meant" to swim in a box even the neon tetras and...

    Muskellunge in 250g

There is more than space that is a problem - Just following the previous post taught me that. Another thing to consider is when a juvenile is removed it is usually impossible for that fish to be reproductive during it's "captivity" - plus you risk it dying from an accident or stress from...

    Muskellunge in 250g

I'm not sure 250 is big enough for a muskie? - they get HUGE - we caught a 47" tiger muskie at our cottage north of Toronto when I was a kid. (not a fish-story it was as big as I was!) There've been a couple heated discussions as to requirements, laws, and the pros and cons of native fish...

KH GH and Salt? Help needed from chem gurus

Sorry - I had PM'd Happychem this afternoon, since he was the last poster - I just assumed since this was so technical and therefore potentially not of much interest to people (just me asking questions and I felt like I was begging)..... I'd hate to waste people's time w/ my ignorance. I feel...

KH GH and Salt? Help needed from chem gurus

Thanks guys - I may PM some more questions if that is OK - this might be more technical that other posters want to read. :o I'm a real chemistry dodo.... You guys are great! :bowing:

Question Re: Rosy Barb unknown deaths.

Hi Marc, Thats a bummer - sorry about that. I kept some roseys a couple of years ago....and had trouble with them at first b/c I didn't keep them in large enough numbers. I only started w/ 3 and one harrassed the other two to death......could be an option? They do seem sensitive to...

KH GH and Salt? Help needed from chem gurus

Thanks RTR Nope - I'm pretty confident I'm understocked. It's 42 gallons and has 2 young angels, 2 dwarf gouramis, 4 danios, 8 cardinals and 2 cories. I'm waiting to stablize the pH/KH to get a pair of rams. Since it cycled my nitrites have never left 0 - and I do a weekly water change...

KH GH and Salt? Help needed from chem gurus

Thanks guys - I used Jungle freshwater aquarium salt and Non-iodized Morton. My pH is 7.0 w/o the CO2 turned on. So why did only the GH increase and not KH with the aragonite? Is my water chemistry completely messed up? I'll try to get a TDS kit this weekend....
