I have a pet store that sells leopard frog tadpoles. I'll buy those for my pond. They are big enough so the fish won't eat them and small enought so they won't attack the fish. So what would you think?
It's almost winter, so unless the tadpoles have front legs, you shouldn't buy them unless if you have an extra 55 gallon tank laying around. You also have to build a type of "fence" around the pond so the frogs don't jump out and cause havoc on the eco-system.
Leopard frogs are not native to Cali, they were introduced. And those that do reside in California are all in the eastern part of the state according to the maps.
They aren't as bad to the environment as bullfrogs though. I bet that if I bought them for my pond the worst thing that would happen would be them getting eaten.
Or they could establish a breeding population, you could get massive fines, and it could disrupt your natural ecosystem. But hey who cares about the environment these days anyway.
My backyard and the rest of my garden (with the exeption of some places) is really small and dry and there are lots of cats and birds everywhere. I don't even think the frogs would want to risk drying up and getting eaten.
