My first woodworking project, normally a metal guy, but anyway here are some pictures of my progress on my stand. I wanted to design something a little unique. I am fully aware of the extreme over engineering, but its what I had available to me, and better to be safe than sorry.

I wanted a very clean smooth look to it all, as you will see I dont even have handles on the doors (they spring open on touch). The back of the tank was spray painted black (Krylon).

Now, I am just finishing up on the hood, then I will add the water and fish hopefully by next weekend. It will be a Cichlid tank with my Electric Blue Haps, Yellow Labs and Breeding pair of Convicts. Once again I am aware of the differences in requirements for the fish, but I ride their water chemistry boundry limits and it seems to be working as even in their current setup they are breeding like crazy.

Months ago I started asking questions on this forum as to where to begin and looking for ideas, so I just wanted to share my project, and say thanks for all the advice. If you have any questions or comments please feel free to share.

Nice work!

Thanks, going to bolt on the mechanism I made today that will keep the hood open for me tomorow, everything seems to take awhile when you dont have any parts or tools...lol

Looks nice, Is it painted or laminated?

Is what painted or laminated?

As stated in the first post, the tank back was spray painted, as for the stand itself it was painted flat black as well, roller, not spray paint.

Designing it was fun, something I really enjoyed, plus learned an incredible amount from the whole experience, I returned so many things to Home Depot over the course of this build, just from testing out different things and finding out what worked and what didn't as I had never tackled something like this before.

Problem now is I am already running new idea's through my head for my next tank, I want something a little deeper next time, and built into the wall perhaps?....
