Any Sci-Fi Fantasy book fans out there?

More fantasy than SciFi, but The Unbeheaded King Trilogy, by L. Sprague deCamp is most definitely worth a read. And for that matter "Lest Darkness Fall" is a must read as well!

Haven't seen any one mention the Black Company series by Glen Cook. A bit darker than Wheel of Time or Sword Truth, its different in that it is written from the perspective of a bunch of soldiers in the trenches who are the "bad guys", not the wizards in white saving the world yet again. Along the same lines is the Malazan series, by Steven Erikson which starts with Gardens of the Moon.

Thanks guys, going to add them to my list! Didn't get the chance to get to the bookstore Saturday had a problem with one of my dogs. Will be going this week, thank god it's a pay week:) If I buy a trilogy etc. I like to get all or as many as possible. Don't you find when you read something you can't put down, you finally finish one book I just have to have the next one right there and then. I read David Eddings Belgariad and the Mallorian in about 2 months, that was 10 books. I couldn't put them down. I would read till 2am and then get up for work at 6am! I was exhausted but those books were so worth it:)

I just thought for Stephen King it was a bit unoriginal. The ending I guess I didn't like because it had been such a HUGE build up, something like 7 thousand pages or better, of what Roland would find at the Dark Tower. It was just a let down to know that there was nothing at the Dark Tower other than Roland's beginning and end. A never ending loop just wasn't worth all the hype IMO

You might want to take a pass on Samuel Delany's "Dhalgren" then. Although it has rather a lot of sex if you like that sort of thing. :)

Oh sweet. Ok, best series ever, Malazan Book of the Fallen by Steven Erikson. I'm getting book 10 The Crippled God which was released yesterday in the mail tomorrow from Amazon. It's about 10,000 pages total story from book 1 to 10. Awesome story. George R.R. Martin is good if you don't mind waiting 10 years in between books. Glen Cook is great too, The Black Company series is cool and you can see where Steven Erikson got a lot of his inspiration for the Marines in the Malazan series. Another good author who just released his second book yesterday is Patrick Rothfuss who's debut book "Name of the Wind" is excellent and the new book "Wise Man's Fear" which I am also getting in the mail tomorrow is much anticipated!

I also like Philip Jose Farmer for Scifi. The Riverworld series is great.

If you haven't read Erikson though, do yourself a favor and give it a try. Book 1 is Gardens of the Moon.

One of my favorite fantasy/sci-fi authors is Mercedes Lackey. I love all of her books. :)

have to agree i love her Valdemar books. but recently have been reading more sci-fi than fantasy. been reading alot of David Weber, Jack Cambell and John Scalzi come to mind immediately but there are lots of other ones. i also just got the kindell and already have it loaded with a crap tone of books that i plan to read.

Can't believe you mentioned "Name of the Wind" by Rothfuss! I picked that up...oh, about 2 years ago just for the cover and it sounded good. I loved it too! I'm definately getting the next one,Wise Man's Fear! Actually I think I'll go to amazon right now:) Going to check out Riverworld sounds like something I'd like.
More for my list, a busy reading summer is ahead of me!

Heck yeah, great book! As soon as I finish book 10 of Steven Erikson I'll be starting Wise Man's Fear. I was also pretty excited because the day I got both books in the mail (Thursday) they announced the release date for George RR Martin's "A Dance with Dragons" which is July 12, and if you've been waiting for that book, well you know it's been about 5 years of waiting so that's awesome too. :)
