Mafia 2014 #1-- FF1 Simple--The Play

Sorry for the crappy day 1 gameplay everyone, I'll try to do better day 2. Sucky nightfall, both of the people I suspected for reasons unrelated to continual focus on myself were innocent and are dead :tombstone:

It's late, I'm pooped-ish (no thinking allowed) so I'll read the posts after I left tomorrow.

Well, I am going to call it a night. I will check again when the hounds wake me up to go out. Or in the morning which ever comes first

Well, before I go fire up the grill, I would like to throw a general question out to everyone.

I already know Zaffy's answer as it was stated in his vote post.

I would like input from everyone on the reason I gave for my vote on UN. Am I barking up the wrong tree or does he look scummy to anyone else?

I will check back in before retiring for the evening if anyone has questions for me to answer.

Well, As far as his line about "Scum being happy." My initial thought was he was just repeating a line that has been said in probably every game played.

And at the time I thought he was just confusing FF's effort with good game play!

Actually I'm still not sure which way I'm leaning with it.

Here is what I take from nightfall.

I have Kash voting to save herself....I know she claims "Not" but we pretty much all would have done the same thing.

We have Wiz unhappy with a early vote on Zappy then both voting late together on one what I consider questionable post.

And a very confused Jpap after questioning almost everybody about everything, waiting till the last second to vote a UD.

Combine that with an inept scum team, and I have a mess to sort out.

Jpap;

In this exchange between you and Wiz

What answer did you get that you were satisfied with?

This kind of bothers me.
Night fall is at 7PM eastern. Which would be 4PM pacific. I don't know what it is anywhere else in the country and don't know where FF lives. But to vote so early "to avoid UD and by choice" since it is day 1 smells scummy.

Day 1 being a crap shoot is, in my opinion, a cop out and a cheap way to cover up a vote. Yes, we have a history of lynching innocents on D1, but, if I remember correctly we have managed to nail scum as well. Although not very often.

I would be more comfortable with a vote cast early in the morning the day of night fall to avoid UD than I am with one cast early morning the first day of the game. Even before there has been a chance of game related posting to occur.

One more thing that bothers me about this vote is that his "crap shoot" vote fell to some one who in the past has demonstrated competent ability to root out scum. Something the town can ill afford if he is innocent.

Bally, I'm not sure what you're getting at since I clearly see some joking around early in the thread. Maybe you would care to share your interpretation of the first 12 or so posts before Kash's?

I don't particularly like the little nudge of support by DD there. Don't mean to imply a coordinated effort, I just find it to be a very convenient type of post without having to say much...

I agree, to an extent. Joke-votes are certainly an easy way for scum to hide...my problem with that is that being the first to vote entirely is not a very good thing to do if hiding is your intention. To me, there are too many scenarios that could "make sense" whether FF is innocent or guilty (very little of FF's game play makes sense from the standpoint from anyone but FF). WIFOM situations galore.

What I don't really agree with at all is your last statement. I don't see how that has any bearing whatsoever on FF's motives unless you are already making some pretty hefty assumptions.

I suppose it could be a single vote margin, but I'm failing to connect the dots here...please spell it out for me so I don't make any incorrect conclusions here.

My disagreement was less situational and more about the general point you were trying to make. By saying that FF possibly chose Zaffy because he's essentially a threat as an innocent completely ignores any possibility that both FF and Zaffy are mafia. In addition, there's no tiptoeing around the fact that no one innocent is inherently more valuable than another (aside from PR's) in a numbers game. To suggest that someone might be scum because they happened to vote an experienced player, especially early in the game, is silly to me. Targeting players through the lynch is a very inefficient mafia strategy at this point in the game...IMO.

The general point I was trying to make is stated in the first line of my post. FF's post explaing his vote to Kashta bothered me.

It really is that simple. By posting my thoughts, I figured we could start to generate some game related posting to allow us to have something to dig through looking for scum. I did not, however, think that my post would end up kicking off the FF show.

Most of what got posted was between you and him which, basically defeated my purpose. I had hoped to see more input from others to possibly find inconsistencies. As you stated yourself, it is a numbers game. It is also a small game so we have even less room for error than normal.

Wiz, I got your main point. That was pretty obvious. But that last part of the post appeared, to me, to be disingenuous. To imply that anyone who votes for someone who could be helpful as innocent is acting scummy is a very large stretch. Again, that's the only part I took major issue with...

I didn't expect FF to start this up either, but I'm not going to let his odd posting go unnoticed.

Fair enough, maybe I misinterpreted what you were saying in your posts. It has been a long time since I have played and I have missed it greatly.

I am rusty at this and just trying to revive mafia at the forum. (I am hoping that this game will spark enough interest in the vets to get another one going).

Zaffy;

Is this what Wiz said that made you think?

Okay, I am fighting with a slower than molasses, non responding net book so before night fall hits and I haven't got a vote in,

I vote to lynch DD.

She has made two posts and neither one contributed to the seeking of scum. I also want a vote in so I don't UD because of the netbook handicap.

I will keep looking to see if anything makes me want to change my vote.

This post stood out to me the most. I will change my vote and explain in the next post.

I retract my vote on DD and vote to lynch UN

UN stated he thought the scum liked where it was going. Said he didn't like how quiet it was so close to nightfall. UN has made a couple of comments here and there but hasn't kicked any bushes. Wants to see what others think but doesn't ask any questions.

The biggest thing is he thinks that the scum must like how it is going then votes for one of the only two people with votes on them.

Really? If you think the scum like how it is going you are going to vote their way?

I vote to lynch UN

What wiz said made me think. I feel like going with the gut right now.

I hope not, because it seems more like a setup to me.

Zaffy;

I hope not, because it seems more like a setup to me.

No, it was this one.

So quiet and an hour before nightfall, which leads me to believe the scum like where this is going. Really want to see where everyone else votes to get a better feel for tonight, but I have a party to go in a few minutes and can't hang on here until 7. Rereading a bit more to see if anything really catches my interest

Wiz pointed out a potential inconsistency with what UN said and what he voted. It's not the most solid evidence, but it's better than most of what goes on day 1. So I went with my gut on it.

So if that post was the inconsistency (posted by UN at 5pm by the way) How do you explain Wiz's vote for DD at 5:29.

Jpap;

In this exchange between you and Wiz

What answer did you get that you were satisfied with?

I wouldn't say I was satisfied per se as I still don't agree with what Wiz said, but in that case I think I made my point and there was nothing IMO that was pressing enough to keep going on about.

2H, can you clarify which "questionable" post you are referring to?
