My water now is soft too. My anti-livebearer thing started when we had hard water, they were a bit too happy...

I haven't had babies from mine now in well over a year. Think like late 2019, early 2020? Was the last batch of baby platies I had.

Problems with them in soft water is theyre more prone to problems. My mollies particularly do end up fighting fungal infections quite often. Treat it, goes away, comes back a couple weeks later. It's a cycle and it's not fair to the fish. I won't want to keep more with my water as soft as it is.

If I had harder water, I'd be over the moon to keep a nice colony of something like goodeids or fancy wild endlers or swordtails.

Only livebearer I can really do is least killifish (not actually a killie). I'm juuust in the GH range for them at 125ppm

I haven't lived with hard water in 20 years. Soft is nice for many species, but not all...I don't want to have to adjust my tap water.

Going through the dreaded diatom phase now. I've also added a powerhead for additional circulation since it's such a large tank.

Neowise, his patterning is cool, been darkening since he's been in the big tank.

Spotty, she doesn't sit still ever. Always spazzing out, even chases after the algae scraper when I use it. She's funny lol

I didn't share the before photos of scraping the glass. Was bad enough I couldn't see through some spots at all haha... scraped off about 1/8th of an inch in some spots was nasty

Though I've had worse diatoms on my betta tank before, was so bad there it killed off plants.

Putting some big plans into motion today. Gonna be a bit of a busy day getting things all together.

Picked this bad boy up from Lake Huron 2 weeks ago in preparation.

Played around with some ideas, went for this structure after cutting the piece at the fold.

And a rather large clump of vallisneria gigantea to pair with the scape. These grow potentially to 6 feet long or even more.

Can't say for sure, the youngster is their baby I kept, too young to say 100% but lean towards female on that one too (breast plates are very far apart and have not shown signs of narrowing, but that can change). As for adults there's 1 adult male and 2 adult females.




The new light is in. The fish keep stirring up the water, so will likely be some time before it clears up properly.
