Spotty, she doesn't sit still ever. Always spazzing out, even chases after the algae scraper when I use it. She's funny lol

where'd you get these big vals? those are some BIIIG ones
i would love some for my 75g lol
My petsmart labels them as jungle vals, but these get mixed in if you have a sharp eye. They have inch wide leaves and tend to be redder, so any time I've seen them I've nabbed them from there.

I do know you can sometimes find them on plant sellers online, depending where you are from.

wow! there are wild goldfish??
Unfortunately yes, goldfish have become feral in many places worldwide, but USA I know there's a map of introduced populations. I'm located in the Great Lakes region of Canada.

Theyre here either because theyve escaped ponds via flooding, dumped through the sewers, or released intentionally because irresponsible pet owners dump them there. And now a lot of those populations are actively breeding too.

And Spotty is a cutie, but sometimes I feel like she's judging me when she stares at me

Both mollies passed away, both were old, so was not unexpected.

Adjusted the placement of some of the vallisneria gigantea.

They were old, but still sad. Thank you :)

I just use my phone lol for tank photos it helps if you take it at night with all the lights off in the room with only that tank light on, avoids reflection.
For fish, use the focus lock function

Thought Spotty was a girl, nope. This week he's developed breeding stars on the cheeks and edge of the pectoral fins... that's a boy thing. Sorry for calling you a she Spotty haha

And tank as of right now. Those vals have reached 6 feet.

Pardon the clutter, but pulled one of the vals during water change... full length of the tank! I have it laid across the top of the tank.

(And yes my clumsy butt knocked my rainbow scaper tweezers into the tank)

How'd your butt get way up there? lol

Breeding stars is a new term to me, must just be for GFs. I like it.
I use a step stool, I have to use it for so much, I'm so short haha.

Yes! Breeding stars is a goldfish term for the little white speckles on the male goldfish gill plates and sometimes elsewhere. They're most common on the cheeks, sometimes on the thicker pectoral fin edge. Occasionally you will see them on the scales too but not overly common.

Yeah, I've heard of tubercles & other fishy (mostly male) stuff like odontodes, but breeding stars is a cool common name. Maybe we can start using it for other fish than just GF?

I'm fairly tall but need a step stool for 1 tank planting & high cupboards. The tank stand was custom made to my height by a friend but I may have shrunk a little  It even has more substrate that we'd planned for 12 years ago...
