Speaking from experience? I used to have a truck that didn't have a working gas gauge or speedo but I never took shots or blindfolded myself... though the wipers didn't work either so if it rained I either didn't drive or I drove really fast. ;)

I think a rheostat to drop the rpm of the pump might work.. don't see why not? This way I can be sure to get it 15 feet up.

My local petsmart has people in the fish dept that have tanks of their own. They do a terrific job handling and cleaning. The gear is outrageously priced but the fish are very reasonable especially when they do 50% off sales which is... always. ;)

It seems like that pump, under pressure could fill the trash can faster than it can empty, is that a concern? Also, could you put the pump on the bottom of the trash can and pull the clean water out allowing the dirty water to siphon into the top? Then you could put the filter under the...

I'm not certain what they are.. they're in my tetra tank. Columbian Red Fin Bloodfin Tetra Serpae Tetra Black Skirt Tetra Snails They're tiny.. about the size of a grain of salt. They're in clusters. I have a rock with some on it as well.

They're really hard to focus on. ;)
