    gravel vac. betta tank

My vet gave me a big syringe to shove in the end of the hose of the gravel vac--pull out the thingy on the syringe to get the vac started. Maybe you can find a similar syringe? (This type of thing: http://www.air-tite.com/oral.htm)

Help needed! large belly and white stringy poo

I've heard that white stringy poo is a sign of internal parasites. You could try a food that contains medication to get rid of parasites--Jungle makes one (don't know if it's available in the UK). Hope your fish are feeling better soon.

    cycling question

Have you tested your tapwater? If it contains ammonia, your partial water changes might not be reducing the ammonia as much as you'd like. Some water conditioners remove ammonia, most don't. Amquel+ removes ammonia and does not interfere with the cycle. (You will get incorrect results with...

How long does it take to treat popeye?

My betta has popeye--has had it for quite a while, but I wasn't sure until I got my new betta and compared them. He completed a course of Maracyn 2--no effect. Now I'm using Ampicillex. How long should it take to see a change when I hit on the correct treatment? If the Ampicillex doesn't...

    Glofish Question

I don't know about Glofish, but the development of other genetically modified animals has caused a great deal of animal suffering in the form of animals with various defects before the desired animal was obtained. Details at http://www.cruelscience.ca/research-gm.htm

    New Betta!

Hiding all the time can be a sign of illness. When Jellybean was constipated, he hid constantly in his little cave. But when he's well he's active and ignores the cave (before the sickness, I wasn't sure he even knew the cave existed). He also hid a lot when he was in an unheated 1.5 gal...

Read This Post Before Getting Fish

The LFS could change their policy or go out of business. I personally think that if you won't be able to look after the fish when it reaches its full size, then you shouldn't get it.

    new betta tank

Congrats on your new betta! Looking forward to pix. I use a water conditioner (Amquel+) that removes ammonia, since my tap water contains ammonia so my partial water changes during the cycle weren't lowering the ammonia past a certain point. Prime is another water conditioner that gets rid...

    help my poor fishes...

I'm sorry for your loss. Hopefully we can save the surviving fish. You will need to upgrade to a larger tank if you want to keep the goldfish. Depending on the kind of goldfish and who you ask, they need 10-20 gallons each. I second the suggestion that you get test kits for ammonia...

    How Often Should I...

I am sorry about your losses. You need to be testing for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH, and change the water often enough to keep them at okay levels. Don't remove all the water at once, just a percentage (as needed). Leave the fish in the tank while you do the partial water change--taking...

You might also be overfeeding. It seems to me that a hungry fish would pick a bit of food out of the silk plants.
