What kind of eel would be best...

I'd go with a regular spiny eel, they're smaller. The peacock will grow to 15 inches, and the minimum tank size is 40 gallons. 15 more gallons won't make enough difference if you really want to give it he room it needs. They are also carnivorous, so be wary if you try it. Good luck with your...

Something hard I had to do...

Well, my parents have whiskey in the house but I think they'd get a little angry if I were to use it like this. I'm 21, but don't really drink, they'd know something was up. I kind of want to keep it under wraps until things are finished. Would rubbing alcohol be alright? It's the only other...

Something hard I had to do...

Probably by mixing a bottle of clove oil into the whole thing. I looked at the pond this morning, and I couln't find the dead fish to pull it out. So, I don't know if someone took it out or if it is pinned under something. Maybe it even sank. I tried digging around in there with a garden...

Something hard I had to do...

Some of you may have already heard this story, but bears repeating for what I have to get off my chest. My Father started an outdoor pond more than 4 years ago, and for the first few years it was a nice little project he took care of. Now that his job and other things have taken front seat...

    New project: Seagrass/Seahorse tank

ooh, nice tank, they'll love that center piece. I actually went to a nicer lfs in my area and was surprised to find seahorses there. They were big enough to fit in the palm of your hand, lighte yellow with little black dots. They must've been the barbouri(sp?) species. They were captive bred...

    No morals what-so-ever...

yeah, it is, but when your own justice system otherwise fails, the real irony is that the very people it has already locked up are the only ones who seek a real punishment for these crimes. The amzing thing is that even murderers still might have family and children they continue to care about...

    No morals what-so-ever...

I must agree that things like this are disgusting. No petaphile or rapist can ever be rehabbed as far as I'm concerned, that impusle will always be there in the back of their mind. And as was said before me, general population in prison usually takes good care of them, if they don't isolate...

What do you put in the Substrate

I have 40oz of First Layer Pure Laterite underneath the normal gravel. The rooted plants seem to like it. I also have stuck with undemanding plants as they are less worry.

Snali Feeding Balls & Forecasting Loaches

I thought I'd share some interesting occurrances I've observed through the keeping of my 55g planted community tank. Whenever I feed fresh veggies or sinking food, there is some that is passed over by the fish. Of course the food then is left to the gravel, and I am left to awaken in the...

    Lighting Upgrade Change Growth Rate?

I think what I might have to do is just get rid of the wisteria if I can't sustain it with the lighting I have. I was also overlooking the fert sticky, and read some advice saying that an increase in fishload as well as co2(I use Excel) will help. So I might just try that instead. I don't want...

    non-messy fish?

Above mentioned fish are great, and also look into small slim bodied fish like danios, neon tetras, and white clouds.

    Breeding Snails

I would venture to say that malaysian trumpet snails will be more of a value than many others for the fact the they keep the gravel distured or aerated and only eat dead or dying plant material. They also have an ornamental exotic quality to them. Good luck with whatever your heart desires!~Angela

Can you tell me what kind of Goldfish this is?

An outdoor pond would be a good idea if you can't find a big enough tank. I've seen goldfish fry grow and mature from the gray-black color to the gold color before. It must be an adaptation to blend in to their surroundings when young to avoid being easy pickings for predators. Of course, there...

    Lighting Upgrade Change Growth Rate?

There's one thing I'm worried about, it says in the instruction manual for the dual fixture I have not to put any higher wattage than 40w. So, what do I do? Anybody ever deal with this issue before? I've already done one thing the manual says not to do; It says not to surface mount the...

    Lighting Upgrade Change Growth Rate?

I don't think the color tinge would bother me much. As long as the plants do well, that's what I'm concerned with. I want to try to get to the point of having lush growth. I want the fish to feel completely at home, where they have plenty of cover and things to swims in and out of.

    Swordtail Scale Loss?

One of my swords has some scales missing near his head and back. The area is a white-ish patch left there underneath the scales, and it looks like whatever did it disturbed his slime coat, not very much but it looked lik some of it was left waving around as he swims. He's still maturing and...

    Lighting Upgrade Change Growth Rate?

I found two 48" 60watt bulbs for my tank. They're cool-white with 4200k rating. I've heard color temp doesn't matter and that wattage is what plants care about. My question is, would this upgrade give my plants faster growth speed at all? These are the plants I have in my 55g: java ferns...

    Aquascaping 55G

I've got 80 watts over my tank, so that gives me roughly 1.5wpg. That's why I ask about the wisteria and anacharis.
