150 Gallon Build Thread ... From the Start

The bid / pricing just came in from the LFS (cherry with black seams):

What do you think??

Size / Tank & Versa / Stand & Canopy / Total

120 478.90 1166.90 1645.80
150 667.70 1389.90 2057.60
180 808.90 1526.90 2335.80
210 905.90 1526.90 2432.80

The most bang for the buck seems to be the 210 - just won't fit in the room!

The 150 bid is up about $100 from a couple of weeks ago. I had heard that Aqueon had a price increase.

LOL Coy, tell your wife I only have the best interests of the fish at heart :D Seriously though, the photos do show that a tank that size would be overpowering. The pricing is really interesting... from a dollars sense only, the most bang for buck seems to be the 120 or the 210. The 150 just has so many more possibilities for planting and stocking though.... no wonder you didn't buy the lights yet LOL

I agree 100%! The 4' tank just won't fill up that wall (and sticks out too far anyway). Maybe I can wiggle her down a bit on the 150. After all - a great deal of the plants and swimmers I will also be buying from her. I still have 2 more to check with and I can get back to her (she's my first choice - their plants and fish selection are truly awesome).

Thanks Vader. And, BTW, I may be able to smooth it over with the Mrs. now (lol). The 210 is just too **** big (even if I had the room - the tank is just overpowering). She'll just be happy to hear that you agree - LOL! :dance2:

Pricing seems a bit high. One more time, the Glasscages pricing for my 150 (72" x 18" x 28") was:
$600 - Tank
$265 - Starphire Glass (3 sides)
$45 - Hinged Glass Top
$415 - 30" Tall Stand
$50 - Add'l door on left
$180 - Canopy
$120 - Delivery to Indianapolis area
$1675 - Total

Staining and finishing will probably cost me $30 and a few hours. BTW, the pricing for their 180G Tall (72" x 18" x 31") is the same. Just something to consider.

Thanks again Roadracer ...

I will certainly contact Glasscages.com today. I checked out their site and the only thing that concerns me is that I live in Oregon and seem to be a long ways from their nearest drop off point. I assume that would result in direct shipping fees, which would likely be pretty steep. Anyway, it won't cost anything to find out ... I'll get in touch with them today.

Thanks again for following up and I'll certainly post what I find ...

Actually pricing doesnt really seem high.. if you think about it the big difference between glasscages and place cfsin is getting his tank is the 1- Stand 2- Canopy.. Those are big bucks right there for the finish cfsin wants... So add it together its $600 for a bare stand/canopy or $1000-1200 for a solid wood cherry finish stand and canopy. Even if Coy choose to stain it yourself the look would never really be the same unless ofcourse one has great experience in finishing furniture.. and even then IMO Glasscages stand/canopy has a real DIY look to it
