3 eheims is lots of filtration IMO.

2 would have probably been enough, esp. considering this tank is not going to have monster fish in it.

I love the Eheim trio, but wouldn't that be too little filtration for a 150 gallon tank?

This was a big topic of discussion earlier in this thread and came to the conclusion that the 3 2217s would do the job - hopefully it's not too little.

Progress

Today's build update - got the face plate and end panels attached to the stand frame (big, really big, job!) ~~

Used biscuit joints for attaching the ends to the front

Front and end panels in position

Glued and clamped with a couple of finish nails

Top view (home of the 150 - lol)

Looks like at least a couple of days of sanding is ahead of me now ...

No real idea how much longer.

I still have to build the doors (next) for the stand before starting on the canopy.

The canopy should be quicker to build than the stand. Not as much framing, etc.

I do have a bit of a hiccup on the lights (not sure what I ordered is gonna' fit very well) - really need those in hand before starting the canopy. Anyway, I still have time. Hopefully, I can get the lights here before I am done with the stand (at least a week or two)!

what lights did you end up ordering?

I ordered the 60" 6x80W Tek 2 T5 Very High-Output Retrofit Kit w/ Bulbs
from the Reef Geek (post 313 of this thread) on Monday.
But now in looking closer - the light is 18" deep. The overall depth (from front to back) of the tank is only 18 1/2". Will be kind of difficult to build the canopy with a hinged top - won't it??

I am going to check with them in the morning - perhaps (hopefully) the order hasn't been processed / shipped yet.

This seems to open up the lighting question again - input please??

cabernet or red oak for me.. but then again all may look 10x better if you stain it for longer/again and add the few layers of poly.. Try finishing the samples to see final look
