29G Shrimp Tank

The refill! This picture shows the difference between the color of the background with and without water. And you can see the clearly visible seam in the background disappears under water.

Bubbles! Blurry bubbles but whatever...

Water was still clear in the morning so I added my soaking wood, one less thing in my way (the soak tub). Sorry about the window reflection. Need to fix the top of the background huh?

Decided to use an eheim 2213 with spraybar. Going to re-paint the tubes though so I picked up some krylon fusion today from Sears hardware, stuff is getting harder to find.

Hoping to go to PA for plants next Thursday. Might just order them at this point though. But the wood still has to sink so just be patient self! o_O

Light will be here on Monday at the latest but boy am I excited! Would like to have it tomorrow so I know if I need to build a canopy or not cause I could be doing that right now. I'd rather not have a canopy because this was supposed to be a $0 spent tank (other than plants and shrimp) and the light blew that budget already, oh and I bought all that substrate I didn't use...and the paint I just bought, OH WELL! lol It will all be used sooner or later. ;)

My light came early! When I heard the truck in the driveway I ran downstairs like it was Christmas morning! lol It was packaged very well, took longer than I wanted to get it out of the box! It is nice and thin and sleek. Seems pretty well built and is quite bright, can't look directly at it at an arms length. I can clearly see the reflection of the red leds and it is overall a bit bluer/purple than expected. A negative now but once I get some plants in there it might show reds nicely. It also really shows every smear, film and hard water mark on the inside of the tank.

I can just barely see the LEDs from my seat but it does throw a fair amount of light above and around the tank and with the shimmer it is kinda distracting. But the shimmer on the walls and ceiling is quite pretty. lol

So I need to clean the tank better and find my tripod! ;)

Awesome! That didn't take so very long ;) Are you planning a plant road trip soon? This week?!? I'm feeling impatient for you. You might as well wait until you get moss to do the final wood arrangement.

It took forever! Ok, maybe it just felt that way. ;) I am going to PA on Thursday, come rain or snow I AM going! lol Rachel just released some habrosus from QT too, I am SO freaking excited!!

Yes to habbies! Get a bunch!! & some plants & shrimp too, of course, not to get side tracked. My only regret with habrosus was we had them in an almost floor level tank & I'm not happy laying on the carpet to be able to see such cute fish.

I plan to get at least 12 and they will go into the 72g, for now. I'd get more but I don't want to add too many at one time. Lots of plants but no shrimp yet, no place to put them.

Ugh, floor tanks, even just for a QT or hospital tank they stink cause they are hard to drain.

Yeah, lesson learned on that floor tank thing... & I'm quite a few years older now too. I did have a low QT my last house, never again!

OK, I thought you'd just grab some filter media from your 72g, plant & be shrimp ready in no time. Do you just want another road trip to Rachel's? Spring's coming, the drive will only get easier...no telling what she'll have next!

Some filter media would be ok for the cycle aspect but there is not enough bio-film, algae and micro organism in the 29 yet for the shrimp. Although the wood has it's lovely white fungus growing in nicely! And my roselines would eat them in the 72g. I'll just get shrimp shipped when I am ready in a few months or so, plus you know I'll want other things then too. Like more habrosus! :D Who knows I might get some free shimp by then too!
