29G Shrimp Tank

I told you I wasn't the only 1 reading along ;).

LOL, so us tell again about your lack of impulse buying !

That was long trip, so go out but make somebody else drive. The plants can wait until tomorrow.

LOL Wait. I said I did not impulse buy animals, which I did not buy any I did not plan to buy. ;) And the plants, well we never actually discussed what I wanted or what she had so does that make it all impulse or none? lol Even when we were collecting stuff I just kinda said "I want some low light stuff for long term and a bunch of fast growing stuff for start up". Then she went off and grabbed stuff while I unloaded my car (brought her a ton of shipping supplies) then I just looked around. I honestly don't even know exactly what is in my plant bag! It's like Christmas! :D

Hey! I've been reading along. :). I'm glad you had a great trip and brought back some good stuff. I'm really curious about the corys and these "better" shrimp. Need some pics :)

Well thanks for joining the conversation! :) Pictures will be coming probably tomorrow, I want everyone to settle in without too much disturbance. But the difference in the shrimp was VERY noticeable when removing them from the bag. The regular cherries were completely clear and the sakura were "have been in a tank, happy as could be" red. Just a little while in the tank though and the regular guys have gotten some color back. I just checked on the corys, only saw about half of them but they were wiggling happily about the tank.

EDIT: Oh, I got my other 2 new LED strips today so I had those to help check on the new stock.

Well THIS system will just be shrimp and a couple snails. Hadn't nailed down a feeding plan actually. I have.... just about everything, they'll get that. lol Algae wafers, pellets, disks, bites... carnivore type sticks, bits, cubes, pellets... brine shrimp, golden pearls (other things like that I can't think of the top of my head). NLS foods from big cichlid pellets to GROW pellets and community flakes. Frozen/freeze dried bloodworms, microworms, krill etc. Crumbles and so much other stuff I have in the freezer or basement in air tight containers that I will probably never use.

But these guys will probably get algae wafers, shrimp pellets and veggies mostly. Oh and heaps of algae. :D

The corys will get what the rest of my 72g gets. Staple foods are NLS pellets, NLS flakes with shrimp and algae wafers. Treats are frozen bloodworms, freeze dried micro worms and a veggie here and there. The roselines eat from my hand too, I love it!

It really sounds like Christmas at your house!

Are sakura shrimp neocaradina like RCS? Do they interbreed w/RCS? I know there are lots of cool & different shrimp out there, local guy used import all kinds! The only non-cherries I tried, black bees (caradina) were not happy in my water, sniff. I also tried a nerite snail once, but after the diatoms were gone I could not find anything it would eat, sob.

Your animals are spoiled for choices, a woman after my own heart. I think the fish chow, 1 food fits all people are missing the boat. I love variety & figure my fish & critters do too. They repay my loving smorgasbord with breeding or at least great color & activity.

Sakura ARE RCS. RCS come in grades now, like CRS. Sakura is the first step up from regular reds.

I agree! I do not get as much breeding as I'd like but certainly get great colors and activity. People always complimented me on my ember tetras brilliant color and honestly they didn't get a wide variety even, cause they have those tiny mouths.

It really sounds like Christmas at your house!
And it's all wrapped too!!
IMG_2017.jpg

Let me just say...Holy Plant Portions! Like I said I didn't watch her do this so it really was like Christmas.

ONE anubias petite! It must have 40 leaves!
IMG_2018.jpg

ONE anubias Nana 12+ leaves (normal portion is 4 leaves?)
IMG_2019.jpg

TWO java ferns!!! They are at least a 5x5" mat and like 12" tall (normal portion is like a 4" rhizome)
IMG_2020.jpg

Then I realized I needed a size reference.
ONE bolbitis
IMG_2023.jpg

4 Crypts +1, maybe wendtii. I did see these in her tank, with some old soil master select! VERY well established and she got me lots of roots
IMG_2024.jpg

Unknown, it was in with those crypts and she said it does great.
IMG_2025.jpg

Subwassertang baseball sized at golf ball price
IMG_2027.jpg

Tiny bit of hornwort and a bunch of guppy grass
IMG_2028.jpg

Mosses....top bunch (not in the corner) looks a bit like christmas, bottom one is a tissue culture she got and it's very bright green and dense

Last and certainly not least! Bucephalandra!
IMG_2033.jpg

Tank Planted! Done! ;)
IMG_2032.jpg

I added one small olive nerite to the 29g. Hoping he will eat some of the white fungus stuff.
IMG_2015.jpg

I think it's best I make another thread for all the other stuff to keep this thread on track a little.

Oh, I had "super red" RCS & some "mutt" shrimp here but they don't seem to breed, I'm not sure why. Had some really cool colors too, a turquoise (really pretty!), chocolatey dark cherry, or that's what I called them. Both sexes, young & old, no action. I still have a couple 3 years later, way too old to breed but still fun to see. Longevity vs breeding? I dunno.

If you need some tiny treats you might try frozen cyclops or daphnia...but you probably have, lol. Have you tried Repashy gel food? I don't think I'd have tried hillstream loaches & gobies without his Soylent Green, might be a nerite snail food?
