29G Shrimp Tank

Oh, you are being extra careful & patient, way to go! So unlike me at times, but not at others, eek! Patience is sometimes my long suit...but not always. My first cherry shrimp were an auction impulse buy...as were my first (& only) killifish. QT'd together, I had many less shrimp...& soon, 1 less killy after leaving for a week's vacation...oops. Live & learn, you're wise & patient to wait but most times you know shrimp are pretty sturdy.

I am pretty good about not impulse buying animals, actually I kinda wait forever. lol Shrimp have NEVER been sturdy for me, just another reason to be cautious. I also want to fert and carbon (maybe even setup my paintball co2 system) this tank for awhile to get the plants growing well before I add the shrimp and stop all that.

My Bubbles!!!
IMG_2001.jpg

I just had to start putting it together! Wood still needs LOTS of work, some piece are just thrown in there but I had to take a break. Plus I am gonna have it pull it out again, like you said fishorama. :) I scrubbed with a vinegar solution again to try to get rid of the haze on the inside of the glass but it didn't do much. I also added about 0.5" of substrate, the rest of the flourite.

It does not look nearly as blue in person now either. Actually it's very a crisp white, probably just the bubbles though.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and seeing the wood in it's current setup with all those peices pointing to the right is really growing on me. I may adjust my original plan.

Have safe travels where you going:) I heard at some point that 1/3 's are aesthetically pleasing to the eye. The pic of the wood above is almost perfection in 3rds, I think it looks great.

I really like the setup, the wood has a great "flow" and "movement". That's going to look spectacular with plants!

I finally set my 29g up with live plants and mopani wood. Found some floating moss balls that are tied to rocks that keep them suspended mid tank, and cut one apart to tie the moss to the wood. (I was told it's Christmas moss, but it looks a LOT like java moss.) I set the tank up in October, and the moss has really grown and filled in. I had intended to set it up as a gambusia species tank, but my pair of BNs are very happy with the set up too. I also added a bunch of ghost shrimp, and they have been so entertaining I'm seriously considering setting up a shrimp tank.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how your tank progresses.

F fishorama There are other people in our thread! hehe Thanks for joining in ladies!

Uhhhh....is it? lol I hadn't noticed but I am finding it pleasing to the eye so there must be some truth to that! Thanks!

Thank you very much! Let's just hope I setup the plants correctly.. Your tank sounds interesting, have any pictures? Shrimp tanks are awesome! My first shrimp tank was my favorite tank of all time hence why I am reviving the concept. :D

This 1st paragraph is all about my trip to PA to see Rachel O'Leary.
Had a good trip! A bit too much snow on the way home but overall good. Got some unexpected goodies in the plant bag! Rachel's fishroom was everything I expected it to be, beautiful, tidy and sensory overloading! Don't know where to look first! I pretty much walked around and said "I want that and that and definitely that!" lol Her new 150g that she's been doing a youtube series on is AMAZING! 150g Dwark Hillstream. I was super lucky as almost every fish in there was exhibiting breeding behaviors while we were standing there. Her rainbow shiner flashed gorgeous blue/purples like she has never seen before, the male sewellias (hill stream loach) seem to be fighting over territory with a female nearby and even the WCMM were is breeding colors. The experience was worth the 5hr round trip...and the snow I guess! I did not take many pictures cause I have a poor camera and she has all the good things photographed already. Here is a list of the critters I got for my various tanks....

4 Assassin snails
4 Zebra Nerites
3 Olive nerites
2 spiky nerites, 1 green 1 black
2 magenta brigs
13 cherry shrimp (a few are even higher grade ones, sakura I believe)
12 habrosus corys!!!! Been waiting like 5 years for these guys and they are so adorable!

Got home about 1.5 hours ago. Got all the critters placed in their new homes and getting ready to break into the plants. I don't know how far I will get with it cause I need to finish the wood setup too AND my friends want me to go out tonight. ;) And all that driving (by myself) made me tired. :(
