29G Shrimp Tank

Well, I see you were posting while I was typing (& cooking, my usual MO). Awesome plants! I hope to try buces soon! I expect great things from yours!

Cute snail, pretty color!

Oh, I had "super red" RCS & some "mutt" shrimp here but they don't seem to breed, I'm not sure why. Had some really cool colors too, a turquoise (really pretty!), chocolatey dark cherry, or that's what I called them. Both sexes, young & old, no action. I still have a couple 3 years later, way too old to breed but still fun to see. Longevity vs breeding? I dunno.

If you need some tiny treats you might try frozen cyclops or daphnia...but you probably have, lol. Have you tried Repashy gel food? I don't think I'd have tried hillstream loaches & gobies without his Soylent Green, might be a nerite snail food?
Turquoise!? I guess that one was a blue shrimp? Well if they are 3 years old your were obviously doing something right, wonder why they didn't breed. Maybe low GH? Reproduction takes a bit of extra calcium for the mommas.

I have tried both of those and have them, those are the other things I couldn't think of the names of. hehe Never tried Repashy though but I've heard great things!

Takes a long time to make those pictures threads, easy for someone to post while I am. ;) I hope I don't kill the buce! Never tried it before but I have terrible luck with certain easy plants, like java ferns. She specifically asked me to grow it out and recycle some back to her too so....pressure!

I just love snails, all colors! lol

I don't know the lineage of my pretty turquoise shrimp but she was SO pretty, I snatched her out of a "share these mutts" bag'o'shrimp" at a plant club meet, I don't care about the others so much,
but she was spectacular!!

Low GH is likely the problem, although I've tried to address that before, ugh.

You just cannot kill java ferns! Long leaves or not (that's what they call them here,(maybe extra tall or long), they WILL grow for you, I'm sure. They'll love your hard water, they liked my soft...until I had to ditch them out of QT disaster tank.

I'm confident you'll be a buce queen in no time! Do it for my future plants! I love them.

Ahh, I see! That's awesome, the bag o mutts. Makes me consider joining a club again, past experiences have left me with a bad taste.

Oh, I can kill java ferns! I have done it on numerous occasions. lol I even killed it in a high tech setup with everything it could ever want available for it. I have found others who have this problem too. Can keep other stuff alive no problem (well I always have to work for any plant but others don't) but not java ferns for some reason! Needle leaves are the only ones I have had ANY success with and that was with fert dosers and CO2.

People who just grow easy plants with NO effort kill me. Rachel is an example actually. She throws stuff in there all under T8 shoplight type fixture and does NOTHING, no ferts or CO2 and they all just grow. She said today "you know I'm just not sure why I have such good luck with plants". Can't wrap my head around that but I am going to try AGAIN to do a low light no fert tank. Although I am terrified cause it has the buce in it now. lol

I told you I wasn't the only 1 reading along ;).

LOL, so us tell again about your lack of impulse buying !

That was long trip, so go out but make somebody else drive. The plants can wait until tomorrow.
Hope you made it out and had some fun!

Your tank looks great!

I've had pretty good luck with java fern - with the notable exception of one very destructive tinfoil barb. I have a small java fern in my 29g right now, as well as an El Niño fern. I didn't post pictures of mine because I didn't want to hijack your thread! I have a large school of gambusia, so am using ghosties as my cleaner crew because the cories I originally wanted would have massively overstocked the tank. No regrets on the shrimp tho, as they have been so very entertaining!

I pulled the water wisteria out of my sister's 25g community tank and used it to fill in my 29g. It had pretty much taken over, and she didn't like how dense it was. It's grown like a weed in my tank, and I've had to thin it out a couple times. The shrimp LOVE it.

I'll snap a picture and post it.

Sorry for the glare at the top, and I know the Whisper 40i isn't the best filter. I had always intended to use the mopani, but had the skull decoration on hand - and I set the tank up in mid October, so was in Halloween mode.

I added the Marimo moss balls on a whim, but I feel they really added to the tank. Plus the shrimp and BNs seem to enjoy them.

I really like the setup, the wood has a great "flow" and "movement". That's going to look spectacular with plants!
So as I said looking at the tank now makes me want to change the wood a bit to stick with the rightward "flow" it has. So that means the filter output NEEDS to be on the left side which is the opposite side the filter will be located. To the workshop I go!....After I get these plants situated. Gonna set them up assuming I can mount the spraybar on the left. Positive thoughts!

Side note, all my new acquisitions are doing well this morning! Cherry shrimp and nerites nearly polish off every bit of fungus on the piece of wood I threw in there too.

I love the feel of the middle area with the marimo balls and the skull. Gotta love wisteria though!
