3M Colorquartz S Grade Pictures - Black

I have it in some of my tanks and I think its awesome. I have a few more tanks to change over to it. This pic is brown with a bit of buff mixed.

That's a pretty cool color combination :)

I finally finished taking out my Fluorite and now I have 3M Colorquartz Black Sand S Grade :)

I LOVE the way this stuff looks in a planted tank! Wish I could have gotten mine to work out but I am so glad it worked for you!

Looks nice. The oily look kinda worries me tho. Anyone had any oily residue from in on the water surface?

I was going to use it for my 72g but the oil scared me too. I had a very oily surface from it & black stain lines. I couldn't get it clean, even after 20hrs+ of rinsing, so I decided against it & went with Tahitian Moon Sand. I am going to continue to clean it though and try it out in a 10g.

The cancer warning is kinda scary too. Lots of people have great experiences with it though, never heard anyone having an issue from using it.

I have been looking at this for a substrate as well.
You can look at the MSDS online at this 3M site: http://multimedia.mmm.com/mws/mediawebserver?555555Jq47QviuJbsS0UB88uD_C5i7QP8UQ5LWB--
I'm not an expert, but it looks like the cancer causing material
is quartz powder if inhaled. The document calls quartz a known carcinogen.

I still don't understand where the oil comes from, which makes me hesitate.
I mean, this stuff is for use in swimming pools and no one is going to put up
with black oil slick on their pool.

Hmmmm I need to hear more about this before I run out and get some it seems like a good Idea but yeah the oil scares me.

Tank is still going and I have not had any kind of issues at all with this sand.

Great thread! And it looks like the best substrate I have ever seen!! It really makes the plants and fish pop!! :thm:

i think im going to give this a shot in my tank, i think im in for some cleaning hell though, 240 gallon tank i need to satisfy
