5gal Stocking

keep in mind that to cycle, you need some source of ammonia, whether fish or pure ammonia from a bottle. otherwise no bacteria will grow with no food source.

tetras aren't good cycling fish. a better choice are livebearers, or I used my betta. some say that bettas aren't good cycling fish since they can become infected easily, but i've never had trouble with them as cycling fish. also, some of the hardier gouramis, like blue gouramis, work too, but those are better for cycling big tanks.

By using the filter from the other tank with the media it should only take less than a week and I should not have a large spike if any I think he will be ok plus I am going to fill it with 100% water from my 10 gallon when I do a water change. so really if you can even say it will go through a cycle you know.

well, yes, I suppose the tetra will be fine... just a suggestion.

I have two ADFs, the hardest part about keeping them is feeding them. They don't need to eat every day, but they're so uncoordinated it's amazing they ever manage to get anything in thier mouths...lol.

I hand feed mine freeze dried tubifex worms and then they manage to scoff up some of the fish food that drifts down to the bottom. I soak the tubifex worms and then hold a clump of it in front of their mouths until they suck it down. You could also hold some against the side of the tank with a chopstick.

Your daughter might enjoy feeding them..with supervision...lol....they are pretty funny to watch as they trip over each other...and themselves..trying to get at the food. You could also have a small group of endlers, maybe 3 or 4 males in with 2 ADFs..(the males stay pretty small, less than an inch..the females get much bigger). Male endlers are very colorful...she'd like those !

you could even have 2-3 bumblebee gobies in there. they're really adorable and i'm sure they'll thrill your daughter. they are BW, but I think you can keep them FW.
