90 Litre Tank Stocking

I'm a little worried about the dwarf gourami's aggression towards the female but I suppose the tank will be planted so it should be ok. All I'm worried about with that is finding female dwarf gourami! All I've seen in fish shops are males, presumably because of their brighter colours. I may only be able to get the one male. On a completely different note, I've been looking at shell-dwellers online and they seem pretty cool but I was worried that I'd never be able to find any. However, I recently found a pet shop which sells a lot of different species of fish- including some lamprologus. Unfortunately I was a bit pressed for time so I didn't get to actually see the specific species. They were sort of a bit blue? I think they could have been Neolamprologus Tretocephalus but I'm not completely sure. Would a pair of those maybe be OK, either with or without the dwarf gourami, with the cories and rasbora? Edit: I've just looked them up and they get to about 6 inches and I think that may be too big for my tank. Would another sort of smaller lamprologus be ok in my tank?

Heck yes! And a lot of stores like that can special order for you if their vendor has the fish available. For vendors like segrest farms, you can go to their website and see what they can ship to their stores

But it may have to be a single species only tank

Hold on here...previously you said the dwarf gourami you would get were from the breeder. Do not buy this species from stores, it is just too risky. Iridovirus cannot be cured (being a virus) and it can spread to other fish. A reliable breeder will know male/female.

Shell dwellers, presumably meaning the Lake Tanganyika fish, are not community fish with gourami, corys, rasbora, etc. The water parameters are vastly different. No mention has been made of your tap water parameters (GH, KH and pH) but no fish will do well in all parameters, they have preferences which can be narrow or broad (i.e., adaptable).

As for Lamprologus, there are 19 recognized species in this genus according to Fishbase, some in L. Tanganyika and some from the Congo basin; obviously these have vastly different water parameter needs.

Neolamprologus tretocephalus is 6 inches and needs at least a 4-foot tank. With these rift lake fish you are into a completely different world from what we have up to now been discussing in terms of fish and their specific needs.

Byron.

Obviously I'll have to check what species are available but I do like the look of shell-dwellers. I've just been looking for something a bit different y'know? I've looked at shell-dwellers but in the short time I was in that shop I'm not sure if they had any other species. I've looked at Neolamprologus Brevis and Neolamprologus multifasciatus as they're ideal for small tanks but i'm not sure where would stock them. i know this is completely different from what I've been talking about but I'm just trying to get a couple of ideas so I can keep my options open. Also, any ideas for tankmates for either of these species? tbh, at this point, any sort of stocking is welcome. Although I have done a lot (and I mean A LOT) of research, that doesn't make me an expert at choosing species for tanks so any stocking ideas at all, even if they include completely different species from the ones I have mentioned, would be very helpful. BTW, when it comes to tap water parameters, i haven't actually checked them yet. I'm getting the tank, gravel and plants etc. tomorrow so I'll probably check then.

Which of these would be better for my tank: Dwarf Gourami (If I'm sure it's from a reputable breeder), a Kribensis, a small apistogramma (maybe cacatuoides) or maybe a German or Blue Ram (not sure on that one). Also, would a Honey Gourami go well with one of these fish (apart from the dwarf gourami of course).

Also, I'm looking at some different tetra because I'm looking at getting a GBR and also some different cories because I have more space so here's my new stocking idea: 1 GBR, 1 Honey Gourami, 10 Rummynose Tetra, 6 Julii Cory and maybe a Bristlenose Pleco but I'm not sure because sme people are saying go for it and some people are saying don't. Thoughts?
