Well it looks like I've joined the rank of those who have had failed Stealth Pros. While doing a water change in my tank the other day, I noticed the water seemed a bit cool. Sure enough, it was down to 74 from the norm of 78-79. The heater light was green, so I turned it up a bit to see if it would come on. Nothing. I consider myself one of the lucky ones to have not had it explode or cook my fish. The number on mine is 01G31, and from a link on another forum, it looked to be included in the recall too.

So I spoke to Marineland and they are going to replace my 150w Pro. They offered to replace it with the glass style Visitherm and upgrade it to 200w, so that's what I'm getting. I have several of the glass ones and have yet to have a problem, so I think it was a good solution. According to the rep, the G & H lots were affected, but apparently only certain wattages. Mine was supposedly not included, but who knows how much they're willing to tell you:bs:.

Warning: Rant Ahead:rant2:! He did say that there had been quite the stir in the customer service department over all of the calls for the issues with the Pros. I do feel for them, too. They aren't the ones who made the decision to sell out and get cheap garbage from China. But they have to deal with the fallout from irate consumers, while those who did make the decision sit hunkered down in an office counting the bonus money. :angryfire:

rant on, my friend, rant on...

at least you have some hydor theos for back up. :D

So during your water-change was the heater left turned on and did the water level fall below any part of the heating element with the exspectaion that it would auto shut off?

I ask becasue I have the old-school habit of either shutting off my heaters before my water change or planting them deep enough in my tall tanks never to allow the heating element to be exposed to air. So far none of my heaters stealth or Visi-therm have failed.

OK, guys I was just about to post mywhen I saw your post Dr.
Mine just poped, here is a picture.
I was about to email marineland.

LOL, dun, that's exactly what went in there yesterday! I guess everything happens for a reason.

So what heaters are we switching to?

At this point, anything but a Stealth Pro.

I always turn off the power strip that the heater and filter are using for this particular tank. I practice the same thing you do. If the heater is below the water line, I don't worry when doing a WC. All others get turned off.

Most of my 6 Stealths all quit working over the past year or so, a couple bubbled up. So I'd already sworn off them before I started seeing threads about them exploding! Jeez.
I'd gotten the Steaths to replace the ROTTEN Hydors. Every one of my 6 Hydors were bad (bought at different places & different sizes). After about 6 months they wouldn't shut off and overheated the water. I'm going with the Odyssea brand this time. At least I won't be out as much money if/when they fail. I'm SOOOO tired of heater & HOB filter problems. I'm to the point of thinking canister filters and heater-less tanks are the way to go. It doesn't get below 75 in the house during the winter anyway.

My stealth heater had a hairline crack and the temp went way, way, way up! I put in an old All-Glass heater to replace it.

I just realized, I need to search some more. Are all of these defective ones only the Pro version, or the regular Stealth as well? I have 2 of the regular Stealths in my 125 mbuna tank. They have been fine for over a year, but it's got me thinking now.
