Are ghost shrimp killers?

Males are smaller, he's about 1½". I've never seen the males attack anything. Only the females seem to attack and only when they are berried. I've not seen one attack that wasn't carrying eggs.knashash said:

My ghost shrimp have never had a chance to do anything remotly aggresive because they are eaten right away and I dont think that they would to my Bichirs because if they did, than they'd be killed. Roan you got ripped off paying over $1.00 each. Many lfs sell them as feeders for roughly 20 cents
Hmm.. I wonder if the Ghost Shrimp are what are messing with my Rams' breeding. I noticed my female ram has some frayed fins (the fins just behind her gills). I assumed it was the sometimes rough and tumble breeding behavior of the rams, but it could be the ghosts. I know one of the shrimp was carrying eggs a couple weeks ago, and I haven't seen one of the Otos in a bit.. maybe time to scoop them buggers out and put them with my tiger barbs.
Well, most animals (including humans) are overly protective of there offspring. I have a pair of rams that just spawned, they are normally varry piecefull, after laying eggs, I thought they were going to kill my gourami that is like twice there size. Maybe just try tossing out the femmales. Btw, how do you tell the difference in sex?
I was going to get a coulple of ghost shrimp to put in my 5 gal. Betta tank but I am not o sure about it know.
Yah, they sell them for that now, but not back in August when I bought these. My LFS doesn't carry them.wwildcats04 said:

Just a note -- IME they will not attack a fish they can't take on. They only seem to bother passive fish, like cories and otos. They don't got near my kuhlis and clowns at all and the thought of them trying to attack a juvie rainbow is humorous.
This girl went after my baby rainbow because it was small, stressed, afraid, and "stuck" behind a rock. It wasn't really stuck, but couldn't get out easily because it was panicking.
I doubt they would attack rams. Rams are peaceful but I bet they can kick up a storm when they want.
As for them defending their young, sure, but she wasn't defending. She was hunting.

i never liked ghost shrimps, they dont eat much algae and are agressive.
cherry red shrimps are much better, they NEVER attack anything and are true algae eaters.
now does anyone know about amano shrimps? they are a lot bigger than cherry red but also cleans up algae like no other. From all reports seems to be very peaceful shrimp jsut like cherry red. Was wondering if anyone have personal experience with them?
