Blue's 80 Gallon Mbuna Tank

One more Acei on it's way!! :)

Hmmm perhaps we were separated at birth.

I was hoping to get pictures today because my new afra has finally felt comfortable enough to color up. But my light crapped out on me again and I think this is the final time. I saw you were also in the market for a new light, DUN DUN DUUUUUN!!!
:lol2: I'm not surprised. I am going to try the 24" aquarays from Lowes? (I think) that Justin recommended.

Pictures are great! I really hope the Msobo colors up for you, that was the first Mbuna I feel in love with. Is the Tahitian Moon sand darker then the colorquartz?

Yeah he's getting there. The flash washes him out. Honestly I might be looking for a replacement at the ACA thing next month. The moon sand is darker than the colorquartz. I have some mixed in and it looked a little odd at first but I'm use to it now.

Are your rocks fastened together or just stacked?

They are stacked. I make sure each rock is not touching the glass and is very sturdy before stacking another one.

Here's a few pictures from today.

Most of the fish are still skittish to this was the best I could get.

Ok first, here is the new acei!

Now here are some pictures of the afra. He's still not fully colored in these pictures but he was sitting pretty still so I took a lot of pictures.

Anyone have any ideas? The blue gets lighter and he has a yellow blaze along the top fin. I have seen the dad and he was gorgeous, I'm hoping this guy proves to be as nice looking.

Now here is my hap. He usually doesn't hang around for photos. He's been in the big tank for over a month now and has done really well. He's growing too. I have heard these guys take a while to color up. Anyone know how long it takes an electric blue hap to color up?

And here's a picture for fun of when I first got him(I'm hoping he's actually a he).

I'm still annoyed that he was hormoned. Now he's pretty happy and healthy and not nearly as shy. The mbuna totally leave him alone. The only fish that picks on him is the red tail shark.

Well I had to move the 2 small mainganos and 3 afras from the Tang tank. They were tearing up the platies and I knew once the platies were gone the Tangs would be nest.

All the small fish were bigger than bite size so the move went well. My male afra has lite up though with the new additions. Of course he hid every time I tried to take a picture.

I also figured out the afra type.

Cynotilapia afra (chewere). The dad of this guys matches perfectly I also checked the local forums and there are a couple of breeders of this species in my area. Mystery solved!
