Chain Store Score

So I was in a "big box" store and wondered past the fish and noticed they had my FAV fish, the Columbian Tetra, of course they had it labeled something crazy and they were $1.67 each and looked really healthy. Now notmally I don't buy from them but I just had to have them, darn impulse:) As always there was no one around so I went to the customer service desk and asked if someone could come help me. I waited for 15 minutes and no one:swear: So I returned to the customer service desk and asked again. I went back to the fish tanks and waited another 15 minutes, still no one, by this time I am more than heated. Finally I decided after a half hour wait no one was coming so I took matters into my own hands. I got the fish out of the tank myself, bagged them and took them to check out. The lady said "Huh there is nothing on here telling me what they are or how many". This is when I almost went Linda Blair. I snippily told the lady I had asked the woman at customer service twice to send someone and had waited a half hour before no one showed up so I got them out of the tank myself and told her they were $1.67 a piece. "I can't remember the fish number", she said I snorted loudly and said "I guess I am gonna have to find a manager". She said "no I will just ring them up as a vegetable":confused::confused: sure I thought. Anyway she rang them up as a sweet potato and I got 6 Columbian Tetras for $1.88 total. YAY ME!!! And no I don't feel bad:lipssealedsmilie::lipssealedsmilie:

I did the same thing a couple of months ago when I walked by the fish section and saw a couple of EBJDs mixed in with regular JDs I fished them out and went through their booklet of prices and found the lowest price and stuck it on the bag.

3 EBJD for $2.88 and a couple of Congos while I was at it. :evil_lol:

I had the same problem w/waiting for help at their pet dept., but it's not all the time. I got some really good deals on potted dwarf hairgrass, kleiner bar sword, hygro komptact, bronze & green crypts at a similar store I go to near my old work place. You never know what you'll find. At another chain store, I can always get crypt parva which is kinda hard to find. Of course the people there have no idea what those plants are.

Hope you don't have any snails!

Snails will eat sweet potatos.

I've done that at large chain store before, next time just put the code that you see on the label and how many and it will look more professional at the checkout. I think they actually prefer it if you do it yourself, since they obviously don't have many people trained and they end up injuring the fish instead.

Yams and sweet potatoes are not the same. Yams are a sweet tubor that is often candied and coated with marshmellow. Sweet potatoes are fish.

Plus if you get more than two fish- the people at the checkout might not be able to count that high.
