Confused!

Take them back, and get like 3 mollies for your tank that grow to about 3"
she could only fit one molly in there at best. males get about 4", whle females get to be 5", sometimes approaching 6" i've heard.

OK I APPOLOGIZE AND I DO CARE... I will take these fish back immediatly, but I do plan on doing a fish cycle. I am a very impatient person and I can not seem to look at a tank for 6-8 weeks without any fish in it.....

Good you will thank ur self later......i know u will probley be a little put off because people got a little mad, but that is just because we were all shocked! so ya after u take the fish back and finish ur cycle we will be very happy to help u with ur stocking list!

To me personally, that's completely understandable. We are not "yelling at you" so much as we are truly asking you to read the informative information we're throwing out there.

You CAN do a fish cycle and have the fish live through it with a bare minimum of exposure to ammonia. The trick is to have a very light bioload (very few or just one fish) OR to do massive daily water changes, perhaps twice a day at times.

You CANNOT get even one Oscar to live in that ten gallon tank. Feel free not to listen, but they WILL DIE.

Your ammonia test kit will tell you.

Well my tank has been set up for a week now....everytime that I have tested the water, my amonia levels are the same...and evertime I dip those test sticks in for mt nitrate/nitrate..they come back with no change to the strip... i will grab some fish bags from the LFS on my way home tonight, and return the fish either tonight or tomorrow..... I will test my water again tonight and post my reading here

understand that you are trying to establish a nitrogen cycle.

I still recommend you get a few zebra danios..they are tough lil fish and often used in cycling a tank.they are very active so you will most likely enjoy watching them skitter about.
that said..the nitrogen cycle is dependant upon a lot of factors. you can contol temp and bioload.
the bacteria you are trying to produce will proceed at their own pace..cycling a tank can take 6-8 weeks.
you need to establish the first part..the bacteria that consume ammonia..they will produce a byproduct of nitrite which will in turn be consumed by another bacteria and produce a by product (waste) of nitrate..this is as far as you go with the freshwater environment..nitrates are removed via water changes.

you are only at the beginning of the nitrogen cycle..you are showing ammonia the first stage..you still have a way to go.

If you know anyone, ANYONE, with a freshwater aquarium that has been running for several months or longer, you can take a big handful of their gravel and put it in your tank and that will cause your cycle time to decrease to a week, give or take. If you could have one of their used filter pads, to put into your filter, you could cycle your tank even faster. Just be sure to keep the living invisible bacteria wet while you transport it from their house to yours.

I just wanted to add this in again to make sure saw it.

Readings

Ok my amonia has gone up from .25 to .50....my nitrate is 0 and my nitrite is 1... I still have the oscars in the tank and all three of them are always hudled up together (soo cute) however I did notice my crab running after them ealier... I could not understand how one crab could run up on three baby oscars and they would only move once one of his claws was in their face..LOL Looks like the crab is king of the castle right now and is eating up my plants.... I still plan on taking the oscars back to the FS but right now they seem to be ok for the time being..... I will take them back sometime this week. I am already becoming attached to my babies.....

here's the part where you do a water change..
remember, ideally you want the ammonia and nitrite at 0.

the levels you have are not safe..they need to be lower.

max ammonia should be no more than .25 and the same for nitrites. exposure to these can cause permanent damage and death.

Take them back as soon as you can, today if at all possible. It will be better for all concerned incuding yourself. Previously you said you were going to take them back today. I would still stick with that and then do a decent water change to get your levels down before you add any other fish if you are intent on doing a fishy cycle. The oscars are suffering in that tank because the tank is too small for them and they will not handle the levels in your tank for very long without a problem.
