Cycle finished but nitrites through the roof

do you think the bacteria I added may seed and start to help? if so how long would that take? 3-4 days maybe? Maybe it's the filterpads i have being too dirty? I can post a pic.

Ideas? yeah, if your tank has nitrites, the cycle isn't finished. either that or you have a bad/old test kit.

I just did a test this morning and I think, well it seems the color is a tad bit lighter than yesterday on the test, just a tad. Maybe something is starting to improve. fingers crossed..

if i test RO water it shows zero nitrites so i assumed the test kit is right but maybe it is not? I can buy another kit today if needed

how long has it been cycling? i didn't see that piece of data in the original post.

i'm in week 10 now. I've been through the ammonia spike, that lasted a while then they zeroed out and everything else went good but high nitrites. My wife happens to be a block from the lfs so she is swinging by on her way home with a new nitrite kit just so I can be sure it's not my tester..

Yes that does seem unusually long, but if the test is accurate I'm not sure there's anything you can do to speed it. I know fw Cycle is basically snake oil, I can't imagine sw cycle would be any better. The only thing I could suggest is add some cured LR to help build bacteria colonies, or SW Bio-Spira if you can get it.

some lady at the lfs tried to sell my wife fish flakes, told us to put fish flakes into the tank everyday eventhough there are no fish. This sounded odd so I passed on that one..
