Oh goodie Inka!!
Something to sink the teeth into.
But I am sorry to say I can not rebut the claim that global warming (although I prefer to say Climate Change because of the extremes we see on the cold side too) is a farce. Because it is NOT! And I know you are looking for facts for the other side, Inka. But I would like to have some input
Over Consumerism is the culprit if you want to get to the bottom line here. I have a ton of examples but I would like to stick to something that the aquarium world can relate.
Sharks.
Shark fin soup is a delicacy. It is considered a symbol of wealth in the Chinese culture, and because the shark does not get sick, they also believe it has medicinal properties. The demand for shark fin soup has risen in recent years because the number of people that can afford it is going up in China. Because of this perceived greatness and the fact that fishermen can get $300 for one pound of fins, sharks are being hunted in huge numbers, thus reducing the population. (and on a side note here, some fishermen cut off the fins of these sharks when they are still alive and throw the rest of the shark back in the water)
This imbalance in the oceans ecosystem threatens the balance of our air. With limited numbers of the top predator in our oceans, leaves other species to flourish. This is where the problem arises.Phytoplankton is a big producer of oxygen for our earth. The species that eat the phytoplankton are growing in numbers.....I think you get my point here.
We are all hurting the earth when we over consume, the pathway of our purchases can be tracked and yes, they are making an impact on our world.
I have not given any facts from sources here but there is a movie called Sharkwaters that is amazing information if anyone is interested. There is links on this site for facts about over consumerism.
