DIY Radiation Barrels

I want another color gravel in a flask (purple?) with an airstone bubbling up through the stones. (I'm married to chemist so i tend to lose the radioactive-ness)

Oooh, that would be great!! You should get him a betta for where ever he works, and set it up for him. You could have a couple smaller vials with different colors of gravel, the bubbler flask you mentioned, and even try other things! You could build a little playground with molecule models.

I've started painting now. It seems like krylon fusion is really thin... I'm still adding layers. The aquarium sealant doesn't hold the paint as well as the pvc does. I'll just keep adding layers, and I think it will cover the sealant.

I'm picturing safety googles with java moss growing on them for decor, maybe some small flasks or test tubes, LOL

These are such GREAT ideas. I'm a chem prof. and I have a 5 gallon in my office - will definitely put some of these ideas to work -- I especially like the goggles with moss and test tubes with colored gravel :D I'm proud to be a nerd - and will be joining the ranks of the nerd-quarium owners!

I wonder if those models are fish safe, much cuter than the old glorified tinker toy type in our desk.

Bio, it's coming along nicely!

Leeser, you could make different structures & change them periodically. Then see who notices... Or even just the periodic table would look cool on a dark color as a background.

My husband kept a betta in his office during grad school but not a nerd-quarium.

OOO - I have a nice dark colored periodic table that would make a good background :) I think the models would be OK - just plastic. I'll have to look an mine and see where it's made, I'd mainly be concerned about lead in the dye, hmmmm I can't wait to get to school tomorrow and start working on my nerd-quarium!

:uhoh: Uh-oh, Chem prof! I'm a biology major. I'd love to understand chemistry...but... it ain't gonna happen :headshake2:. I'd rather be mucking through a wetland than staring at vials. :)

We'll have to set up a nerd-quarium post once we start getting a few tanks together! We can show off our nerd pride :D!

Hey, your wetland wouldn't exist without chemistry :) And actually, I'd prefer mucking through wetlands than staring at vials too, but staring at vials pays better. Seriously, I like bio and chem both (I'm actually a biochemist by training), and the world needs biologists as well as chemists :)

I think this would be a great idea! How are your barrels coming along? Still waiting for paint to dry?
