Finally got that salt tank...

My clownfish tried hosting a powerhead. Poor fella kept getting blown back from it and eventually gave up.

Was this the powerhead that gave you an electrical shock!?

I think with Christmas coming up I want to upgrade my lighting, skimmer and add another powerhead.....maybe I'll update to a 40B

Don't forget your favorite moderator this holiday seson :). Nothing says Merry Christmas like some new LEDs :).

What is the recommend wpg for a 40B using LEDs?

Can't really use total wattage. For example using 300 x 1/2 watt (150 watts) LEDs isn't going to sustain many corals where as the same 150 watts using 50 x 3 watt LEDs may bleach your corals if you aren't careful.

Other things to consider are whether optics are used to focus the light and if so what degree of optics (40, 60, 80, etc) you choose will also impact what to go with. Most recommend fixtures or DIY setups using 3 watt Cree bulbs. Even amongst Cree bulbs there are many to choose from and more bulbs are coming out daily. Despite the 3W bulb claims I know of several tanks around here using fixtures that include 1W bulbs and those tanks are doing very well.

With a breeder you also have the added advantage of a shallow tank depth. At this stage it's more about what you are willing to spend or if you are willing to do a DIY fixture.

Yeowch those numbers are a little steep on the LEDs O.o

I'll probably go with this, or something comparable, for lighting. http://www.aquariumguys.com/nova-extreme-pro-t5ho-6-39w-36in.html?gdftrk=gdfV2226_a_7c1209_a_7c7276_a_7c239339

That is a solid T5 light that will allow you to grow just about any coral you want in a shallow tank like the 40B. The main knock on those is fan noise. Individual reflectors and good ballasts though.

The 6 bulb will give you great color options. Might want to choose a couple of lower par bulbs with good color down the road. That is quite a bit of light on a shallow tank.

Fan noise is nbd to me. There's 9 people living in my house so I probably won't even hear it.

^lol. Plus the cat, dog, and the fact that it's not just 9 people... Its mostly younger siblings.

Can't wait for the picture update later ;)

Pretty sure I have flat worms...

Yep, sorry. Start siphoning them with some airline (or slightly larger diameter) tubing.
