an 82 degree tank shouldn't have killed it that quick.

I think (?) that Kasakato's example was hypothetical. Most tropical fish can easily withstand a temp of 82F. It would be a problem for fish originating from temperate climates though.

my tank stays at a 82-84*F nothing has died yet...the reasion why its so hot cause seattles summer is HOTT!

We named our all male newt cadre after my husband's fraternity brothers. It just seemed appropriate. :joke: My eight year old named our amano shrimp (his favorites) after the cast of Mythbusters- Jamie, Adam, Wen Hu, Buster, Jack Morrocco.

Ah now. I have been busily naming my 75g occupants and have:
Steve the red tailed black shark - named after a friend of mine because he always wears black and red
Barny, Coco and Tigger the clown loaches - 2 after clowns, 1 after the fact he has sharper markings
Mr and Mrs Krib and 'the babies' (Kribensis)
Possum the armoured shrimp (he rather evilly played dead when we first got him)
Flash the dwarf gourami (cos he looks quite tarty)
Clobber the plec (because it took us so long to catch him we wanted to clobber him)
and 2 as yet unnamed angels. I'm eagerly awaiting a character trait that will give their names away.

Tater Salad (betta) - named after Blue Collar Comedy Tour's Ron White, also the container in which I found him at Walmart kind of looked like one where you'd get potato salad from a deli. And he's blue.

Tater Tot (cory cat) - Further Blue Collar obsession, named after Ron White's son.

Munch (calico fantail) - He's always snarfing up the peas as soon as I drop them in the tank, so I thought something appropriate to his appetite.

Fin (ryukin) - When I first got him, he had smudges of black on a few fins, and I named him Smudge. Those disappeared, and I wanted a more appropriate name, so I went with a Law and Order SVU theme and named him after Ice-T's character (Det Fin Tutuola), whose partner is ... Det John Munch :idea2:

Like a few of you have mentioned though, I'm hesitant to name future acquisitions -- if it's personified with a name, the loss hurts more. Other than bettas, I think I'll just point and say "this one."

i name mine just for conversation topics when i show ppl my fish, actually the few i dont name are the ones that die, i havent named my upside down corydoras so hopefully he can live long enough to get a name.

"Last fish I named were my 5 oscars. The tiger was George, the common was Angelfire, the albino tiger was Nataku, The red was Bob, and the albino red was Booger. Since then haven't named any, lol, probably cause I have so many."

Bob...George..Booger............................and... Nataku. Where did he fit in? lol

Anyways. I only have one fish with me since I moved and his name is Midas.. or nicknamed mighty. Bet you can't guess what kind of fish he is ;)
