Goldfish laid eggs - with photos, etc.

yeah, this was apparently the week everyone wanted to make babies. I had two cana clutches, four brig clutches, a glob of marisa eggs, and then the goldfish eggs.
i don't know what it is, but i guess love is in the air... er, water. :)

So...sell your water! I'll take a quart or two. Maybe I can get my crazy Wakins to breed instead of happy chasing one another after each feeding.

Congrats Flare.

once again, i come bearing good news! most of the eggs have hatched as of this morning, and the little eyeballs are clinging to the glass and lilypads all over. these are definitely strong babies, as many of them aren't just hanging out, but actually swimming from object to object in the tank. the baby tank population is growing by the hour, with little brig snail babies crawling all over too.

i haven't taken any photos yet - mainly because i've been busy mopping up all the holiday mess. however, i'm planning on taking some today, and i'll post those soon. :)

quick update! we're about to go away for New Years, and i didn't have the chance to get any photos. they aren't much different from the first batch of fry in terms of appearance at this point, though.
we've made it through the first water change, though, which is great. i was so worried, since that was when i lost the first batch. i dropped in a little liquifry, but they weren't too excited. they're very active and seem happy at this point, though. hooray!
i hope they survive for two days without me... wish us luck! :)

That is awesome!

well finally, here's an update!

the little ones are at five days old now, and growing so fast i can hardly believe it. seems like only yesterday they were just eggs.
our vacation came at just the right point, apparently, because they just started showing interest in liquid food yesterday, when we returned. today they're actively darting around when i feed them.

right now i only have a pump bubbling air in the tank, but i'm looking for a suitable sponge filter. the one i bought today is much too huge for the 2 gallon tank.

on to the photos... they're small because i don't have a macro. these were shot using the old-school lens-flip trick, and i'm not as steady as i would like to be. they're not really sharp enough to post larger. anyway...

see the fin development? i'm so excited!

also, here's an update on the big tank:

pardon my ghetto shoplight setup.

the little ones are showing more fin development today, and are starting to act like adult fish - cruising the bottom for food. they're big enough that i can see them snatch up bits of food from the bottom. i'll be taking more photos today or tomorrow.
i've set up a brine shrimp hatchery to provide them with some live food, as they're really too big for liquid food now. i'm now down to losing one fry every few days. i have about 25 fry - more than i thought would survive. i guess that means i'm doing things right. :)
in the big tank, the adults spawned again. this time i think it was the smaller comet, Alexei, whom i thought was a male - i could swear i saw tubercles - but now seems to be a female. i'm fairly sure the fry i have are from my big white common, though.
anyway, everyone's in a frenzy.
babies are growing, adults are spawning, snails are laying. good news!

congrats flaring
