Holy Elephantnoses

here is the link if you cant link to the above link:

"The purification itself is dedicated to the local god of Wensy (Per-Medjed, or classical Oxyrhynchus). The mormyrus fish symbolizing the god of this town is often associated with Set, a god of confusion and masculine aggressiveness, the one called "Creator of Terror." Who better to overlook the stirring of strife than the Original Stirrer?"

the browser doesnt read. it only displays. im the one who cant read. how far down do i have to scroll to find your quote? hold my hand on this one. i need the guidance. and how can this be another example when this is the first post from his site youve mentioned?

Jigger: does your browser have a HIGHLIGHT function? if it does just use the word "Oxyrhynchus" and it will take you to that quote.

If it doesnt, go to google and download a "toolbar" for your browser- very helpfull- it can hightlight words, translate to english and hyperlinks to the usenet/website/images/ search features. a truly nice addition

hey... 43 hits already...look what you started..

youre taking "oxyrhynchos" out of context. what do you think was named first? the city or the fish???

read your own quote: "The mormyrus fish symbolizing the god of this town...."

TOWN.

again, where's the statement about direct worship to the fish? it's not the fish thats worshipped! the fish symbolizes the god!

.....(*whispering* Psssst, that's an elephant nose....)

exactly... so what the heck is this fish the egyptians thought was sacred?

and if they thought this weird fish (even if it is an elephantnose) is scared, how does it lead you to believe your elephant nose is sacred?

They dont even have the same species name or anything.......

Yes...fish symbolizes the god and they worshipped the fish for the god....

slip: Its in the same family, that species name was an example.

no. Elephant nose is just a "common" name it symbolizes All the fish in that family, INCLUDING the one we keep in our tanks..
