Jigger: does your browser have a HIGHLIGHT function? if it does just use the word "Oxyrhynchus" and it will take you to that quote.

If it doesnt, go to google and download a "toolbar" for your browser- very helpfull- it can hightlight words, translate to english and hyperlinks to the usenet/website/images/ search features. a truly nice addition

youre taking "oxyrhynchos" out of context. what do you think was named first? the city or the fish???

again, where's the statement about direct worship to the fish? it's not the fish thats worshipped! the fish symbolizes the god!

exactly... so what the heck is this fish the egyptians thought was sacred?

and if they thought this weird fish (even if it is an elephantnose) is scared, how does it lead you to believe your elephant nose is sacred?

They dont even have the same species name or anything.......
 
Yes...fish symbolizes the god and they worshipped the fish for the god....

no. Elephant nose is just a "common" name it symbolizes All the fish in that family, INCLUDING the one we keep in our tanks..
