Long-nosed Elephant Fish, Elephant Nose, Peter's Elephantnose

Gnathonemus petersii (common elephant nose)

SYN: Mormyrus petersii, Gnathonemus pictus

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
REMARKS: The Long-nosed elephant fish has an electrical organ which it uses to find its food. It's brain size to body weight ratio is higher than that of humans. Unlike man, it's cerebellum is larger than it's front brain. The Long-nosed elephant fish is used by water departments in the U.S. and Germany to test the quality of drinking water. When the quality of the water declines the amount of electrical pulses released increases. Since the Long-nosed elephant fish has very poor vision, it uses the trunk or proboscis to locate it's food. This fish was depicted in ancient Egyptian tombs, around 2500 BC. Always use a good water conditioner for this sensitive species. They are often intolerant of fish medications.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DC: 5. This interesting species requires live foods and well maintained water.

All those links suggest that these fish can ALSO be found in the NILE. Also, all three are in ENGLISH..

unless of course your common elephant nose isnt Gnathonemus petersii

and yes, i know two of the links are in other languages, but you can still read the countries there from and the maps.

and considering you just linked to a list of a bunch of different elephant noses, yet there is only one "common" one. that last link didnt provide any information. I know some elephant noses inhabit the Nile. Just not Gnathonemus petersii

nothing sacred elephantnose related, but consider your "title" jamison.

"the man that cried wolf"

wasnt it a boy who cried wolf? and wasnt the premise of the story that the little boy was so full of **** that nobody believed a word he said?

just a thought.

Untill the third time...which was the truth...

your third link is about all the elephant noses, as is the first.

the second link however, says this
Gnathonemus petersii (Gunther 1832), "the" Elephantnose. The most (actually only common species, perhaps along with the "Baby Whale", West Africa, where it grows to some fourteen inches in maximum length.

The Nile is not in the West, its in the East.
