How to safely run a sand bottom tank

ok i am lost, how big is this tank? cause a Peacock eel DOES need a 75.. they get up to 18 inches ( or 24 inches? not sure ).. and they would eat your african cichlids if they can catch them... but good luck
 
your going to neeed a bigger tank for the peacock eel AAAAND the african cichlids.. you can maybe pull it off in a 55, but a 75 is perfered..
 
I only have 3 mbuna cichlids, an albino, a hornet, and a yellow lab. They are some of the smallest mbuna cichlids, they have plenty of room and food. There is VERY little aggression and they are very happy. Later on I will upgrade but as for all the fish they are still small, same thing with the eel. Right now I'm focussing on a 55 gallon with a fuzzy dwarf lion fish and a snowflake moray eel. You may criticize me but I have very healthy and happy fish, they have everything they want right now.

Depends really. In theory the Peacock Eel name should apply to one or two species of fish that get to roughly 12 inches. They have small mouths for their size, so while they will eat tankmates they generally won't be able to eat fish of that size.

The problem is that the Peacock Eel name often gets thrown onto just about any of the Spiny Eels. I've even seen Fire Eels get labels "Peacock Eel" plenty of times. Which means that a person with a "Peacock Eel" could have one that'll top out at 6" or one that'll top out at 36"+. Without knowing a species name it is a bit of a guessing game.

Well as long as they are happy right this second I guess that is what counts. Werent you the one that came here asking help in convincing your brother he was wrong with some fish tank and he wouldnt listen to reason??



Seems you two are very much alike.
 
Yes, my fish are happy and I have a "striped peacock eel" the person who said they are confused with spiny eels is right, striped peacock eels get 8 inches, they should be fine in a 20x 12 tank (rough estimate)

wrong. wrong. wrong. research thise fish and tell me the minimum size for them. i can asure you it isnt 20 gallons. not only do you not research your fish but you didnt research your bearded dragons either. they key in keeping animals is research. if you cant so that you shouldnt have them at all.
