LFS in your area

Interesting to see about 20 pages back a similarly named place in Bowling Green KY, not all that far (250 miles maybe?) from here. But a search only turned up one other place in Tennessee, and that in Nashville, which is 100 miles from me. So I would like to mention:

Fishy Business
911 E Church St # E
Lexington, TN 38351 US (731) 968-0079

It's the only lfs I know of between Memphis and Nashville*. On the north side of Rt. 412 as you head east out of town. In a strip mall called Jones Plaza.

Little bitty place. About 2/3 of it is sw; of the remaining third FW fish share space with a wall of birds, snakes, lizards, other small pets; and the middle is display space for big (say 50g and up) aquaria with stands and such.

Not the greatest selection, basic fish mostly. And very little in the way of plants. Used to sell at least ghost shrimp but not even those any more. No snails. However the owner will try to get special requests in from his supplier if you ask.

It's enough of a wonder that a tiny little town like Lexington has a LFS at all, I suppose. Without him I'd be stuck with mailorder, cuz I am not driving 200 miles to Nashville and back to get a tetra. :)

Walmart in Huntingdon TN used to carry fish but got rid of their tanks a year or two ago. (Trying to be polite I will confine myself to saying this is no great loss.) However they do still have supplies such as food, heaters, air pumps, etc. Plus they sell rather nice basic 1-10g tanks and refills for filters & such for what they sell.

*editing to say that there is a PetSmart and PetCo in Jackson TN and they may sell fish. Havent' been there in awhile so can't say for sure. My car is old and decrepit so I do not put it on the interstate if I can avoid it. :)

Might be easier to break down this post by States?

That would be a great help for readers and make it much easier to update as places go in and out of business. Although to go by states would take some pour soul in upper management here a great deal of time to create 50 pages, link, sort 32 pages worth of entries, etc.

However to break it down at least by regions might be do-able. Northeast/NY, southeast/FL, West (CA, HI, AK), and Texas. Those seem to be the hotspots. Then one for Everybody Else In The Great Fishless Middle, most of which entries will be in Chicago suburbs. :)

You could just search this thread for your state and just access the results. I did that for "Maryland" and "MD".

Delaware's Premium Aquatics
5 Chestnut Hill Rd.
Newark, De. 19713
(302) 224 - FISH
http://premiumaquaticsde.com/

BEST LFS EVER - Spotlessly clean, owner knowledgeable, friendly and very helpful. Large selection and best of all, VERY reasonable prices. Cheaper than Petco & Concord pet and FAR, FAR, cheaper than PetKare and the only other (extremely smelly) alternative we've had in this area - anyone who lives in this area knows the one I'm talking about.

Premium Aquatics carries just about everything, have consignments, and I love their driftwood (selection&prices). They always have live food in, and even their blackworms and feeder fish are clean and healthy. R/O water and water testing too.

Store is at the Delaware DE Maryland MD line in Newark. About 30 - 40 minutes from South East PA and Pennsville NJ. Towns/cities less than 1/2hr away: Elkton, Wilmington, Bear, Glasgow and Christiana.

Mapquest it - if you are within an hours drive, it's well worth the trip. Can't praise this place enough.

I don't know if using the search function is all that useful for this thread because people are abbreviating their states instead of writing them out and if you search the thread for a state's abbreviation, nothing comes up because it's too short. For example, there are a bunch of listings posted here for MD (Maryland) but I can't search for them because "MD" is too short to pull up any results. And only a couple of threads actually have Maryland spelled out.
