Looking for a tankmate

Nice setup!

Just a word of advice: if you want the anubias to survive move it to the other side of the tank. The multis LOVE to dig around their shell pit and soon the plant will probably be buried.

Make sure to post pics when you get the fish! :)

Thanks. I should move the fern too then. It's hard to see in that pic, but it's against the front edge of the log.

Next order of business is ordering that canister filter. Don't wanna put any fish in until then. After that, I'll get the rainbows. Then the cichlids not long after that.

Can't wait to get the fish and you bet I'll post some pics!
 
sweet deal buddy looks great and i like how you divided the tank with a log in the middle looks pretty cool, yeah jpappy is so right my multis for them being so small man they can do some digging aye, but if you stick with the self attaching plants like java and anubias i would place them in the rocks so they can anchor themselves. good job..
 
Update: I purchased six praecox and love the fact they stay in the upper half for the most part. I have also ordered six juvie transcriptus and they should be delivered on Friday. I'm rethinking putting any synos in and now I'm wondering how the pleco will get along with the transcriptus and the multis when they get added.

Also, is there an easy way to get the java to attach itself to the tufa rockwork?
 
In my experience a plec is a bad idea...first the multis chased after it when it went into their turf, the the julies chased it away once it went to their side. It wasn't good. This was a bristlenose by the way...

I have no idea what kind it is, but it's about 12 inches. It came with the tank and I do have options if I don't want to keep it.

Any other ideas, maybe a couple smaller synos? Or should I just stick with 6 rainbows, 6 transcriptus, and 5-6 multis?

Also, would it be ok to put my two current transcriptus in with the six juvie transcriptus I'll be getting on Friday or would that be too much?
 
I've found that with the multi's and julies in the tank that there really isn't enough wiggle room for anything else. Synos might be a risk.

I started with a pair and the parents even fought with their offspring. I'm sure the two existing julies already have a territory setup and anything that disturbs that will probably get a piece of their mind.

The two transcriptus I currently have are in a 20long with a couple of synos. I was wondering about the possibility of moving them into the 55 at the same time I get my shipment of six more transcriptus.

Also, I'm wanting to get some more shells and found these.....

Ah, I see. Well if they are close to the same size and added at the same time I see no problems. Just look for the signs of a breeding pair (usually the two fish aggressively defending part of the tank) and remove the others.

Escargot shells are perfect for the multi's!
 
I should be getting my six juvie transcriptus tomorrow. I'm not expecting them to be the same size as the two I currently have so maybe I should just leave those two in the 20long.

Any ideas on attaching java fern to the tufa rock?
