dont get purple up...spend ur money better on a calcium buffer like Kent Tech-CB then...will do much. good to hear ur waiting on the clean up crew. no lighting will only effect any photosynthetic hitchhikers but not the other ones.

THanks

GENERAL INFORMATION

Almost all of this Pacific live rock, regardless of
source, comes in boxes that weigh from 65 to 75
pounds, with the exception of the lighter weight,
more porous Marshall Islands live rock,
which comes in 30-40 pound boxes.
When you order live rock direct, it is not cured.
Please see our page on how to cure live rock.
The most important things to remember are
to NOT blast it with light when it first comes
in, and to keep LOTS of current on it.
WATERFLOW and protein skimming are the
two most important things to do.
These simple rules will allow the rock to cure
with very little loss of coralline.

LIGHT

An important note ... remember the sun at
high noon on the equator is only 6500 Kelvin.
That means, less at other times of the day, or in
overcast, etc., etc. There is no 10,000 Kelvin
in the wild. There is no such animal.
It is often the overlighting of these new
super bulbs, which can kill corallines, and
corals. They ARE a marvel of technology,
but the product they put out is nothing any
animal in the sea is adapted to, or has ever seen.

I watched a large wholesaler in L.A. once
replace all his 10K's with 20K's when they came out,
and watched 500 beautiful purple and blue
acroporas turn brown in two days! So, let's be
careful with the light out there folks!

Well if this is true, isnt my LR .... well screwed. I have good flow but i am not useing a protine skimmer (i own one) and i am not using a light ( dont own one YET). No offence to you guys, please dont think i dont trust you i am just worried that all my LR is as good as base rock

What you think? Yea i need to clean it, whats the best thing = no streaks?

FREAHWATER on one rag and a dry cloth to buff out streaks!!! Even if you spray the cleaner in another room there will be some left on the glass, you touch the glass then put your hands in the tank and you then have a tank full of glass cleaner. Not worth the chance IMO.

NOPE I HAVE NO DESIRE TO BE A MOD HERE!!!

Mike,

Why don't you stick your skimmer on there now.

Stick your skimmer on, move your powerheads up off the sand (going from one of your pics) and get them flowing

Get everything running like usual, except lights, and then leave it for a week or so, then test your water.

That's your next step.

:)
