My 30 gallon N.American darter tank

Not really. The Christmas moss finally started growing after nothing for over a month. I have encountered a bit of a set back in my VA trip and have to postpone for a few weeks. Soon enough there will be darters!

So it looks like we are going to postpone the Virginia darter collecting trip till spring. In the meantime I am gonna order a few darters from Sachs to keep me occupied until spring.

I think I'm gonna get a Redline and an Orangethroat darter, both of which I have heard great things and are a bit out of my collecting range. I may also order some other stuff too. The have lot's of cool things.

So finally something worth sharing. I made it down to Virginia and I was able to bring back some wonderful specimens for my fish tank. All fish were found in small creeks in moderate to heavy current. Here they are in my darter tank!

Rainbow darter, The guys are easily one of the most popular darter species for good reasons. They adapt well to captivity and usually maintain great color. These guys were begging for food after being in the tank for less that 24 hours.

Roanoke darter. These guys are great. They have a fantastic orange yellow belly and a subtle blue green iridescence to them.

Fantail Darter. These guys are rather shy and I have yet to be able to get too many good shots of them. Neat fish, they kinda remind me of snakeheads.

Here are some roseyside dace. These I caught in Pennsylvania but they are in the same tank as the darters and are just as rad. Sorry about the crappy pics. They never stop moving.

What a great tank! Can't wait for updates.

That is a cool setup and very nice fish. That rainbow darter, and the dace are especially eyecatching.

Wow! Those are incredible fish! You may make cold-water converts out of us all!

Is there a good resource you could recommend for learning about different darters, what they need, where they're native, how to collect, etc? (Yes, I know how to use Google, but teh intertubez is big and I was just hoping there would be some awesome resource you could share. :p: )
