My dad has a small problem with his tank.

I may do a water change once a month or so.. cause I don't want to stress my fish out every week.

I love my fish and I do take good care of them. I also take care of my brother's ball python, which he's to lazy to feed and I give the snake water. I had fish since I was 8, I'm 19 now...

You take horrible care of your fish, which we keep trying to tell you, but you continue to make excuses. I suggest you get a pet rock.

It I took bad care of them.. my large angel would been dead 3 years ago, but she's still around. I had to rehome my gaint danios last year, since they were beating up my angel. Half of the fish I have are young fish, only some are old.. My tank isn't overstocked anymore.

Look, Vincenia, don't take offense from what people are saying. They have tries to give you tips on how to have the healthiest aquarium and fish. People are getting irritated because you don't want to change your ways 'because it's worked in the past' or 'we've always done it that way'.

If you want everyones help, accept that while the way you have done things may have worked in the past, there are better methods that people have developed over their years of fish keeping.

If you don't want to accept peoples help when you ask for it, don't get angry when they get annoyed.

Good luck!

I have a problem with this whole thread..... Ok let's make it simple, change 50%+ once a week. Screw the tests. I did 70 gallon water changes on my 125 and 120 and my problem was the fish wouldn't stop breeding.... Adding new fish is always a risk, as they could have an unknown pathogen which is does not affect a tank of individuals that are immune, but can be devestating to a tank of individuals that have never been exposed, think of the flu shot.... Even with quarantine some pathogens can wipe out a population. Just trust when everyone says do water changes they are telling you sound advice. I would say check parameters as u advance into the more dificult to keep species;)

Odd. I could swear that only a week ago I read...

I never had this happen to me, my tank is over stocked...

As for your angel, just because a fish survives, does not mean that it is healthy or happy. A betta can "survive" for a long time in an unfiltered dirty vase, but they should never be subjected to such poor quality of life. I'm not saying that your angel isn't healthy or happy, as I don't have enough info about it to make that determination. What I am trying to say, is that a fish not having died, is absolutely no indicator as to whether you take good care of fish or not. It simply means you're not killing them. And there is a HUGE difference between simply not being dead, and being healthy, happy, and thriving.

At this point, it seems logical to point out that you started this post because you were concerned about fish that ARE dying in your fathers tank.

We've offered ideas as to why it's been happening, and how to solve the problem. You've ignored the advice, and continue to argue in an attempt to defend you and your dad's previous fishkeeping habits. The question becoming, if those fishkeeping habits were so perfect, why did the fish die in the first place?

It comes down to this. If you ask for advice, be ready to receive it. The beautiful thing about advice, is that you don't have to take it if you don't want to. But if you don't want to hear it, are going to argue with it, or go into defense mode... don't bother asking for it. We're only trying to help.

My dad hasn't lst any more fish as of now. I just lost 4 in a year time...I'm going to do a small water changed tuesday on my tank again to clear it up a little more. I do small water changes till my fish get used to it, my dad said not to do it weekly, he said like once a month. I'm going to do BI Weekly water changes. I do daily water changes to my 10g, every sunday or tuesday. I'm going to make dividers for my 10g, cause it costs to much to buy them, my betta likes the 10g a lot better then the 5g.

But I do have a question about my pleco. I had this guy for about 4 years, I believe he's to big for my tank. He's close to 10 inches, he was 6-7 inches last year in my 30g. Sorry for the crappy picture, it was taken with my Iphone.

Should I rehome this guy or keep him? His head is close to 2 inches wide and he knocks up my plants.

Re-home it, it would the kindest thing you have ever done for it.
