Bettas are generalized as Betta Splendens, someone correct me if I am wrong, but I think Crowntail (like above), Spade Tale, Veil Tail, or any of the other types are all categorized under Spendens.

Yeah its just for now, till my tank is fully cycled; its so close too! Nitrites finally dropped to zero, and Nitrates are around 20ppm now. 
Wow that betta is a beauty it matches your avatar. I like the pic where he is coming at the camera head on almost looks like a "skeleton fish".

I think your bamboo will be OK. I had a piece in an old betta's tank like that for several months. It didn't grow very much, but it didn't rot or anything.

Beautiful betta! To answer your question about its fin rotting, rest easy, it's not. The giveaway for fin rotting is the opposite. It'll actually be white instead of black and look somewhat tattered.
