My first big girl tank!

Forgot, why didn't I say this before? Get an Arowana!!!

Silver Aros are the least-expensive, but get the biggest (over 3 feet). Jardini's are a nice alternative if you don't want a 3 ft fish, though Jars can get around 28-30 inches still :). Aro's are awesome cuz they are not very common and get massive so you can be sure your friends will be impressed. Too bad Asians Aros are illegal in the U.S. because if you had one, you would have to peel your friends jaws off the floor everytime they come over and catch a glimpse of that beauty.

Silvers grow about 1-2'' per month though so you would need a bigger tank by the end of the year at the latest, but hey, it gives you an excuse to upgrade! Silvers require a minimum footprint of 8ft x 2ft while jars need a min of 6ft x 2.5-3ft so you can go BIG!
Arowanas ftw, DO IT!

Some of the crayfish available are stunning, and in a tank that size you could keep 3 or four. Other bottom dwellers or slow fish would be out of the question though.

You also have enough room to fit a decent sized catfish or pleco of some sort.

Planted would be nice, but, as you know, involves buying at least new lights, possibly a CO2 system, fertilizers, good substrate (Eco-Complete, Flourite, etc.), and plants. You can slowly upgrade, which wouldn't be too hard, as long as you do the substrate first.

If you don't already browse MonsterFishKeepers, you might want to check it out, as it deals heavily with tanks around that size.

I personally would do a black sand substrate, lots of rock and hiding places, Marimo balls, and 10-12 small Frontosa. As they grow you can sex them better and start removing the males, as they apparently do best with one male to multiple females. Plus the males are a bit larger, so more females equals more room for more female Fronts.

Some great ideas! I don't know that I would be able to upgrade predictably as it took me 2 years to find this tank, so getting something that would need a bigger tank eventually is out. I do have 100lbs of SMS coming in a couple of weeks, so I have some substrate. I like the idea of a big catfish/pleco as I haven't kept one yet and the invert junkie in me had to get a little excited at the idea of some crayfish. I guess I just have to pick a focus and get crackalacking on it. I have been browsing MFK (I go there daily just to be nosy). I can honestly say I would only get livebearers if i end up with a fish that would benefit from eating them, although the reference to my "colorful" style is funny.

there could just be a couple big oscars and some nice filtration solutions coming with that sms ;) lemme know.

alright alright! i'm comandeering the office camera this weekend and will have pix for you on monday, if not sunday. :)

R, I am running a 300 with the O's the plecs, the ID sharks, the pacu's, a barracuda, and a 16" TSN. Everybody is over 9".n The tank is awesome,:headbang2: but, if I had another one,:eek3: I would go heavily planted witha butt load of various tetras, dwarf gouramis, angels, cories, swords and guppies for a food source..etc. Check out spyders tank on MFK. Sweet. I've got some pics overthere of mine, whatever you do it will be a blast! P

You guys better be careful about how much you try and put into that little car...100lbs of SMS, a 29gal and stand, and now the oscars. Although I guess you could just put the oscars in the 40.:grinyes:

They are nice fish though. I would have taken them home if I could have.
