unless that pond is sealed indoors, those fish will ALWAYS be in danger of being eaten. raccoons LOVE a nice goldfish snack.. as do neighborhood cats and the occasional bird.
They are scared not just of being eaten by something, but because they are in new surroundings. If somebody plucked you out of your home and stuck you in a new one, you would be skittish, too. Give them a few days, and they should relax a little. They may not have much of an appetite for a few days. But once they get used to you feeding them, they will come right up to you when they see you.
My cats have never bothered my fish, though. They just drink the pond water, and watch them.
That's the same with my mom's cat. She is 15 years old, and all she would ever do to a pond is just drink from it.
Also, when I got the bacteria for it yesterday, I couldn't put it all in the filter, so I opened the netted bag it was in and put most of it at the bottom of the pond.
My pond is sorta murky right now, (probably from the bacteria and the mud) but I think it will clear up in a few days.
Do goldfish eat anachris?
Well, that is good then. Just now I lured all three of them near the surface with tropical fish flakes. Tommorow I'll need to get snails to clean that up.
If you have a pond around you, you can probably find pond snails. I only had abou 6 of them and 2 clutches of eggs in 2006. Since then, there have been pond snails in every incarnation of a pond I do.
