My goldfish is pooping A LOT. No, like, really, A LOT.

Thanks for the info manda! Haha all of our aquatic friends are named after video game characters, jamie. I am actually kinda digging the snails...probably gonna pick up 2 more on payday. Poo situation is as poo-y as ever. Hopefully the snails help out. I haven't seen any poop eating yet, but they were pretty thorough on one of my caves last night and we working on the glass when I went to bed.

To me it looks just like gold fish poop. I have had gold fish in the past and my sister has some now. Thats just the way they are lol. And no I don't think anything will eat the poop. I know the fish look like they are but they grab anything and spit it back out :)

As for them going through the sand they are just doing what come naturally to a gold fish. Most fish are always on the look out for food. Remember in the wild they don't sit down to eat at any certain times but must search a lot for food most of the day.

I wouldn't worry about the poop. Like I said this looks perfectly normal to me lol. And they are just enjoying the sand you have put in there for them.

It's quite a bit more poop than normal...we calculated that they've pooped about 7 feet worth of poop EACH in the last 4 days.

Uh-oh! Bottom sitting has started! Today I noticed both my moor and comet were less active than normal....still swimming around and doing their thing, and pooping like crazy (though less than before! The poop apocalypse is starting to end I think!), but they weren't as....perky as normal I guess. Today, about two hours ago, they started bottom sitting in one corner that's pretty well sheltered from the currents and everything. They got up once about an hour ago, swam a lap, and are doing it again. I see no other signs of illness, though maybe I'm not looking for the right things? Last night my comet was trying to hide under a piece of driftwood that's in my tank...I thought maybe it was because it was close to their bed time and he was trying to hide from the light so he could sleep, but maybe that's something that will help? They seem to be trying to avoid the current. What should I be doing?

Anyone?

They're still bottom-sitting, I'm getting really worried.

I took it to petco the day before yesterday and it was 0-0-10. Can't get a new test kit until my next payday. :(

Just keep an eye on them, and get the test kit as soon as you're able. You can't really treat for anything until any other symptoms show (ich spots, flashing, etc.)

Are they still relatively alert when you come over to the tank, or laying on the bottom and not really responding to anything?

They haven't really learned to respond to that yet, I've only had them for a month. Ratchet does once in a while, but not reliably enough to use it as a baseline. Usually when I've gone to check on them though they kinda see me and swim a lap around the tank and settle down again. They look...tired, I guess is the best way to describe it. Like they're in a food coma.
