My goldfish is pooping A LOT. No, like, really, A LOT.

Yep just the two and 2 mystery snails. I'm using aqua safe for my conditioner. Right now it's just the two sponge filters, until payday.

Umm, well they seem to be bottom sitting a little less, thought they're still doing it in that corner from time to time. Lydia has been surface breathing a little more than usual, but still nothing major. She just likes to do that now and then for some reason. There's two air stones going, so I don't know why.

As far as eating and pooping goes, they each got a pea yesterday, but other than that haven't been fed since the start of this. Still pooping up a storm, though the poop isn't as long as it was in the beginning.

Snails died today...so they have no help cleaning the substrate. They attached to the intake of the powerhead and were shredded up.

A 25% water change was done last night.

That's about everything!

Surface breathing in a well aerated tank usually= a nitrite or ammonia spike. That could be the cause for the bottom sitting and hiding, as well. Do daily water changes of 25% until you can get your water tested, and if it tests for a spike of either, continue doing them until the tank balances out. ;)

Ratchet doesn't do it at all though. Sometimes I think Lydia is just a little....special. I have an ammonia meter in my tank, and that says zero. I ordered that test kit off Amazon (yay! Thanks Jamie!), so hopefully I'll be able to do a more comprehensive test soon.

I never realized how awesome Amazon is for fish stuff before....I got some good stinkin deals, and free shipping is always good. :)

Granted I have only read 7 pages of this but there is a lot of bad advice going on here. First snails in the pomacea group are not detritivores and will not eat feces. I don't see an issue with the amount your fish are going to the bathroom, pretty normal for goldies. I would guess that their strange acting is from the tank not being cycled, what are your water params? Since there is little to no filtration on this tank I am guessing the ammonia must be intense. How often are you changing water?

Well, first the snails are dead now, thanks to my powerhead and my own stupidity for not realizing they'd suck onto it, so that doesn't really matter. :(

Second, I personally find the amount they're pooping strange, since I haven't fed them in about a week, other than a pea each yesterday.

All the media is pre-owned as well as the sand and had lots of bacteria in it, and the tank IS cycled. I have taken the water to get tested while I wait for my test kit to get here, and as of three days ago I was at 0-0-10. My goldies are small and according to aqadvisor.com, even with just the sponge filters I'm at over 400% filtration. The new AC70 is coming with the test kit, so more filtration is coming soon.

Oh, sorry, you asked about water changes too. Right now they get a 15-25% water change every other day so I can siphon out all the poop strings, but I plan on doing about that much weekly once the poo epidemic is over.
