I think the biggest risk is when you replace the canister from time to time - but i now use ph monitors with alert systems so i will be notify if the ph suddenly goes where it shouldn't (an indication of a dump or something similar). I currently have 5 aquariums with 2 on co2. After I move in the spring I will have 12 aquariums but again only 2 on co2. For one of them i just inject a little to 'boost' growth rate; the other is more for focus on some plants that really need co2 to do well so in that sense i only have 1 with lots of co2. I do find that most common green plants grow quite well without co2 and my non co2 aquariums have good density just different selection of plants.

I will say that pleco (well bn anyway) are beginning to annoy me. My lemon blue eye breed like once a month and for a while the nannacara was keeping things under control but now he cant' keep up and the tank must have somehwere between 50 and 100 little ones. Everytime i work myself behind the tank i see them everywhere in the back. Oh well when I move and redo the aquarium i think i will have to sep. mom and dad because well enough is enough ;)
I'm already cringing at the babies, because I have 2 other tanks with ancistrus pairs too. Except, I WANT the wild ancistrus bodenhameri to breed but they haven't lol. But I dread if the others go crazy spawning too eventually.

Sigh.

At least they're cute.

Updates will be done in 2 posts here.

My 10 gallon nano got a redo, was having a major issue with algae, so it got gutted and a lot of plants chucked. What I could salvage got put back in but also with some dragon stone!

I also picked up a group of pseudomugil gertrudae for this tank, though ended up receiving a lot more males than females (6 males, 2 females). All in all, I'm over the moon with them, they're super adorable and bold.

Whee, a new rare pleco spawn!! Go NoodleCats!! I love all your new pics, it's been a while since we got to see pangios or Snowflake

I was very tempted by pseudo. gertrudae more than once. I never had a tank they'd fit in when they were available to me. There was a "rainbowfish" shop near a longer drive club auction I went to for "mega auctions" a few times...my only venture into killifish & my start of cherry shrimp...& maybe some apistogrammas...were unplanned purchases (ahem, it can happen!). I TRY to be restrained most times. & I no longer have the 15 minute Qtank set up available anymore (heavy sigh) those were some fun but dangerous times!

I'm excited about them! There's already a couple people interested locally too!
7 days old and not a single loss, yolk is almost gone and I've introduced some twigs and a rock from the main tank for biofilm grazing as well as started bacter ae to help boost the biofilm for them in case they don't figure out prepared foods right away.

Here are some progress pics:

And this is a couple of them today:

As for the gertrudae, I'm angry I didn't ever get them before!! I absolutely adore them, they're tiny and cute, flashy, bring lots of activity to the tank, and they beg for food at the front of the tank like the big rainbows do.
Truth be told, I was considering a couple options for the 10g: pseudomugil gertrudae, pseudomugil ivantsoffii, pseudomugil luminatus, Norman's lampeye killifish, or clown killifish.
In the end, I decided on gertrudae because it gets hot in the summer and on the off chance we don't have a second working AC unit this summer, they can handle the heat better than the others, as their natural range waters have been recorded up as high as 94F. So I felt they'd fare better if it gets hot in our place again. Last summer was depressing, lost a handful of fish to the heat wave.

No regrets with the choice, they're really a perfect fit I think.

Two males. One blue bodied, one yellow bodied. Hard to say which is prettier haha

I had to redo the anubias tank. A lot of the anubias had some tattered leaves that needed to be removed, and I had propagated some to give to friends, so the set up started appearing sparse. Figured I'd take the opportunity to rework the wood structures into something new. Still a bit stirred up from both the rearranging and then cleaned the canister filter out.

Thanks for the ancistrus fry progressions pics. I love seeing them all lined up as they darken & lose their egg sacs!

I had no idea p. gertrudae had such a high temp possibility. Not many fish can handle 94F even for a very short time. I hope you never have to put them to the test. They are very pretty fish & sound delightful!

Is that the former rainbow diease tank or the other 1? Either way it looks great! As does Joker.

I love the blue eyed bows. I love the threadfins even more. It has been years since I kept rainbows. It's those dang B&W plecos that are to blame.

The tanks and fish all look good, as always, Cass.

F fishorama
All of the plecos I keep from the Big Bend of the Xingu can take those low 90s temps as can discus. To run a dry.rainy season for the plecos the end temp. for the dry season is over 90F.

I have always wondered if one could take a hot bath with some of their fish as long as there was no soap involved.......

Some significant changes to most the tanks.
I added a group of 12 rasbora sarawakensis to my 20g, and I'm absolutely in love with them. Honestly, where these have been my whole life I don't know. They beg for food but eat like sharks, come right up to the glass when they see you. Have a really stunning blue shine in the right light. These need to be more mainstream, imo. Really great activity level and they add a lot of life to the tank. They've been helping my elderly cherry barbs feel okay to keep coming out.
