I will never keep rainbowfish ever again, at least not praecox. My last praecox "raffle win" fish died very, very slowly, they succumbed to myco in a neverending QT. I treated with many things to no avail & did WCs all the time! Maybe it slowed their deaths but I ended up euthanizing the rest when I had to give up the fight after many months. No other species were involved. I too, think rainbows, of some species anyway, are very susceptible to myco. IME they were more affected by columnaris too...None of my bottom fish got it but some rasboras did.

But still I have my fingers crossed for your other fish, if not the rainbows. 'bows do seem more prone to some diseases than other fish species. Both diseases are high heat sensitive IME. There's only so much we can do about that. I have & use AC here in CA but not much in MA (the slow version of columnaris infection).

I researched like heck when QTing. It seems like the salt myco version is more people transmissable but not too serious even then, most times...

Sad sigh, good luck!
Yeah columnaris is another yucky bacteria, can be hard to treat. I've had run ins with that nasty one in the past. In my experience, it happens most often with new fish during the early weeks. Have had a couple bettas with it too.

Noticed one of my bleheri rainbows today with a sore on the pectoral fin, but it looks more like a cut than a lesion, I'm watching for a day or two before making the call on it. I think he may have swam into the powerhead for whatever reason. Only thing I can think of that'd leave a cut on the side like that. Or, it's a lesion and I'll have to cull the little one too. I want to give it a day to get a better look at it.

Yeah, don't be in a hurry to cull, the other fish have all been exposed to myco now. I'd only do it if you're pretty sure...give it several days at least. Of course, an open wound could allow the myco to set in faster, just a thought not a fact based idea.

I really hate the constant WCs & triage needed for "plagues". It's stressful both physically & emotionally. Ugh! E-hugs

I had to clove the little guy, he was doing the death spirals. He wasn't gonna make it anyways and wasn't gonna let him slowly keep spiraling to death.

I'm sorry, but you made the right choice. Sometimes it's easy to see when it's time to euthanize a fish. An unfortunate part of our hobby that not everyone is willing to do even when it needs to be done

I got a new phone, my old one had conked out on me. Been testing out the camera on it and have to say really happy with camera quality.

I changed up the asian tank to resemble a riverbank. Feels more authentic, natural wise.

One of the blind old barb ladies, isn't she a pretty lady? (She's one of the surviving fish from the hand sanitizer incident way back, one of the few that haven't regained their sight)

The cute little 10g nano, i removed the wood from the top, decided it looked out of place. Constantly have to hack back the pearlweed.

The rainbow fish 55g. I'm still working through the mycobacteria outbreak, but it's slowing down. I have lost another Cory to it since last post, but otherwise fish seem to not be showing new signs.

The only group of fish that seem unfazed by it have been the garra, the BN plecos, and the Madagascar rainbows.

The garra looking good, s/hes such a mellow guy/girl. Not a mean bone in their body, unlike the brute in the 135.

And the Madagascars, my favorite rainbows looking handsome

More tweaks on the 20g, inspired by a riverbank

I centralized the rainbow tank into an island again. Still losing rainbows though. Hoping it stops soon.

Both tanks look good. I loved your pic of your L240 handsome pleco!.

I'm sorry you're still having rainbow/myco problems, so distressing & not much you can do. I do hope not all rainbows are as susceptible as dwarf neon blues but I know you've lost other fish too :(

It's not just the neon rainbows I've lost.

I'm down from:
6 dwarf neon to 2 dwarf neon
6 eastern Australian to 4 eastern Australian
8 bleher's rainbows to 5 bleher's rainbows

And I've lost 1 trilineatus corydoras and 1 paleatus corydoras

None of my madagascars have been touched for whatever reason.

Total fish lost to this disease thus far: 11
