New Nano Reef Diary, the sequel

Ew... LOL. Nah, a clown left alone long enough or partnered with a smaller clown will change into a female. A big female can apparantly wreak havoc in a small tank, even killing other fish - they're pretty territorial. So far mine's got the personality of a friendly villiage idiot, so maybe there's hope ;)

All in good time, I'm sure. Maroons didn't get their reputation as jerks sitting around doing nothing - this guy is just a baby, I dread the day he grows up, becomes a she, and turns evil

I've been debating getting a clarkii, one of the meanest clowns, but I think I'll wait until my frogspawn or toadstool are large enough to act as host. If they're in love, they become preoccupied with the host, and leave the rest alone. I hope.

Definitely do some reading - I've seen these guys at work and they're naaaasty. They say maroons are the worst, but having seen some of the damage our Clarkiis have done, I don't know about that. From what I've read, hosting clowns can actually become MORE agressive, as they're fiercely protective of their host and territory (which they think is the entire tank, lol).

blinky iv been reading these 2 threads sence i started my tank. your tank has made me keep going in bad times. good luck with the clown and thanks

Back with another update, then maybe I'll let the thread die.

Nobody flame me, I know I've been a bad girl. I said I'd wait, let things grow out, but I brought home a cherub angel yesterday - I watched him all day, and couldn't leave him at work. He's about 1" long, I figure he and the yellow clown goby combined weigh about half as much as the clown or fairy wrasse do, so it's not THAT much bioload (I know, rationalization doesn't work) ;)

I also added a brain and bubble coral to the tank a few days ago. The bubble's fine, but the brain is very bleached. I bought it for next to nothing, the store didn't seem to have much faith in its recovery. There's no tissue damage or recession, and it's eating really well (and what an appetite, holy cow!) so I'm sure it'll recover.

I moved the leather into the small tank until I can find it a good home - I'm fairly sure now that it's what was ticking the other corals off. Now that it's out (since Friday), everything else is expanding more.

A shot of my little hitchhiker, who is coming along nicely. I'm starting to see red/brown streaking in the tissue, and it's eating like a champ :)

ADD --> Here's the best pic of the angel I've been able to get so far (I cut this out of a FTS):

Very nice. I am thinking that the little angel might want a bigger tank eventually and heard some ar not coral safe due to nipping. Are you sure the finger leather was the problem? Well, to be honest I didn't like the look of the finger leather in your pretty tank anyway lol. I know they can bother some delicate sps, but I thought LPS would be ok. But hey, what do I know lol.
