Not enough info to determine which breeds are most likely, but enough to determine pit bulls and rottweilers (Which I always considered just as bad) account for more than 50% fatalities. Not "Very insignificant amounts compared to other dogs".From the CNN article: They said there was not enough information to determine which breeds are most likely to bite.
In 15 years there were 279 documented deaths by dogs. That is less than 20/yr.
Heck, if "Other dogs" were the most responsible they would be outlawing ALL dogs or NO dogs. But nope, Pit Bulls and Rottwilers are the main cause thus they are getting rid of them in CO. Smart move IMO. I know some people here in Okla are adopting Pit Bulls (None near me thank goodness) from CO.
Well, they claim PIt Bulls are domesticated but they still attack. And yes, all animals retain some instinct. But dogs, cats, etc. are "domesticated":
To adopt or make fit for domestic use or life.
They claim horses are domesticated but they still attack.
They claim several different types are domesticated.
My point? "Domesticated" does not mean safe. It means Safer, but not safe.
You know going by your definition of domestication "Make use of animals to humans".
Siegfried and Roy domesticated their tigers.
Treadwell domesticated his bear.
Here is how I see it.
You can domesticate a wild animal. They still have that "wild" instinct in them no matter what way you look at it.
I have two Daschunds. They are nice little dogs but if they get into a fight about food boy howdy, look out. They are what you call "domesticated". But animals will never be trained to do exactly what we want them to do (In other words, not bite).
Sure you might have a good natured dog that doesn't hurt a fly, like mine. They are still dogs and you just need to realize that.
People know Pit Bulls are looked down on and not thought good things of. So why do they get them? The risk involved is too much. Stick with a better breed and have less problems with possible bits, the law, and neighbors. Also keeps you out of possible legal trouble.
